What normally tears up on these transmissions? The only thing that bothers me is that is takes forever to downshift. Its like when you mash it from a 30 roll it fells like its wants to have a picnic before it downshifts.

If it's stock, that's stock torque management controlling the shift. Tuning, for the most part, gets rid of that.

I got bought one. I got it friday afternoon. I didnt think the ups guy was ever going to show up lol. what would be a good stall for this thing?

If the tune doesn't do it for ya, Matt also sells Edge torque converters which are supposed to be a real 'kick in the pants' mod you can feel.

Does the 545rfe Transgo shift kit work in the "6 speed" and address any of the soft shift issues?

The stall all depends on what you want out of your truck. Do you haul things a lot? If yes somewhere like a 2400-2600. If you use your truck for play like i do then get the 3000 edge. As i said tho towing will be your main factor in the choice, even the three doesnt really effect day to day driving.

Like Tyler just said, those WOT downshifts are the killer. The 09-up trucks seem to be taking the abuse much better than the 3rd gens did though. I dont know many 4th gens that have blown up their transmissions with the basic boltons. The tranny failures I know of were all on boosted trucks.

I would throw a 2800 stall converter in there and hang on for the ride.

Yeah it seems torque management is doing it's job.

How much torque management does the diablo tuners taking out the trucks. Because it shifts a lil quicker and a lil firmer but there is no way to adjust it. I new to the dodge trucks. Ive always owned a chevy truck and with efi live it pretty easy.

And Moe Im leaning towards the edge 2800.

You mean like punching it from a 30-40 roll?

Would it be better to manual shift to the correct gear, then go WOT?

WOT downshifts from your OD gears. That will kill the transmission real quick.


What needs to be changed in the trans to fix this? And what is it that breaks?

save your self the problem and go with at least a 3000 stall. I went with the 3000 and I want to go to a 3400 now. I haul my boat often.
