645rfe transmission shifting question

I would like some information on how the 645rfe shifts. I have a 2012 ram 1500.

When you are driving down the high way in D mode and tap the shifter to the left and go into 'e-shift' and you see 4th on the evic ( not in over drive ). If you mash the gas to the floor does it down shift from that point? Or does it go until it needs to shift up?

when in manual mode you are setting the "top" gear, it will down shift as needed but will not upshift above that gear unless you hold it to the point the truck believes you should no longer be calling the shots... but it takes a while for that to happen.
