Another added benefit of the MH pan or any aluminum pan is it adds a small amount of structural rigidity to the transmission case

Nothing looks better on the kitchen counter than a new transmission pan[emoji3]!!! (My wife was like, WTF dude, take that **** out to the garage).

I've been following this thread for a while and decided to pull the trigger.....What a nice pan the MH is. I also have the MH rear diff cover as well, and they are very well made.

Looks like I'll have to wait a couple weeks to install, but I'll post up some pics of the process. Thanks for all the information, this thread is 65rfe gold.

Did you ever get around to the install Sir ?
If so how did it go ?
What kind of fluid did you go with ?
How many Qts did it take to refill ?
What filters did you end up with ?
Did your xsmn temp change ?

I can answer two of those questions, the MH pan will take almost exactly 7quarts of fluid. Also my temps went down by about 5-10 degrees...

Hey there,
I haven't had the time to do it yet, it's been raining quite a bit in SoCal, and momma has me busy with other stuff. I did pick up the fluid and filters though. Went with Redline C+ and OEM filters. I still have about 7 months warranty left, but I'm willing to give Redline a shot based on what I've read about it's performance.

Hopefully I can get this going in a couple weeks. I'll definitely post up photos and a review when completed.

I know man, I'm at 75k and feel as though I neglected my tranny by not doing this sooner. She still shifts nicely and I haven't had one problem thus far. Now it's on the front burner, so my plan is take a day in two weeks and tackle this.....my 17 year old son doesn't know it yet, but he's going to be getting dirty with me[emoji3].

For anyone wondering what the inside of the spin on filter inside the transmission looks like here it is

It's a typical cellulose filter element with what looks like a silicone adbv. The pleats are still pretty flexible and it does appear to be in good shape still. This has about 22000 miles on it. I can't believe they spec this filter to go 120000 miles...

Nice work, 120k does seems like a lot for a cellulose filter, but hey, those engineers are smarter than I am[emoji15]

Awesome Hemi , yep there's no way I'd go 100+k on a filter .
Can't wait to do mine soon !

Alright dudes, I finally have the time to replace my stock tranny pan with the Mag-Hytec pan, on Saturday morning. Here's the plan:

-I'm going to drill a small hole in the OEM pan for drainage before removing it from the tranny. My plan is to strategically place the drain hole in a location where I can add a drain plug kit....so if I ever need to replace the MH pan and put the stocker back on, I'll be able to. Also will allow me to drain into a collector without too much spillage

-Once Stock pan is off, I'll change both filters with new OEM replacements

-Install new MH pan and torque to spec

-Fill with Redline C+ to required level, bring up to temp and check for leaks

I have 2 questions: first, has anyone used RTV/sealant with the MH gasket, or is RTV not needed? And second, do I need to fill the filter with fluid before installation, or is that not necessary either?

I'm interested in your opinions.

@jettajam1, since the spin on filter is vertical I'd fill with fluid if for no other reason , just because you can .
I believe it's been posted here that the gasket is all you need , just make sure both surfaces are clean , flat & free of gouges .
If you were gonna add an rtv make it the Red and only apply to the MH pan side of the gasket in very small Qty ( skim ) the night before , this way less goo squeezing out and less possible loss of torque on the mounting hardware as the rtv dries
( I'd still tq check the hardware after it cools to the touch post leak check/ operating temperature run )

This way if you ever need to remove the pan the gasket stays with the pan completely and you don't have to scrape it off the xsmn .

Good luck Sir ! Post lots of pictures and tq specs

Couple other things to note.

-The pan takes almost exactly 7 quarts of fluid

-The transmission housing is RAZOR SHARP

Like R.L.K. said a light skim of RTV is probably a good idea. That's what I did.

Since you're planning to drill a hole in the pan while it's on the trans I would suggest using a step bit to avoid it plunging into the the valve body.

Also the bolts are allen keyed which makes getting that first bolt started a bit tougher.

Let us know how it goes and post lot of pics!

RLK and Hemi395, Thanks a ton for the feedback. I'll use a skim-coat of red RTV on the pan side, and I'll definitely use a step bit (with a drill stop).

Pics to follow

My plan is exactly the same as yours and I'm glad I'm not going to be the only redline C+ user.

I do have one additional question regarding drilling a hole in the stock pan. Those that Have had the pan off, where would be an ideal spot to drill the hole for plenty of clearance above?

I put my drain plug near the lowest point which is where the spin on filter is. I can take a pic when I get home from work.

Keep in mind I have the 65rfe and I believe the 66rfe pan is slightly different...

Hemi , you still running Redline C+ in your 65RFE right ? I believe there are 4 people now and I'm gonna be in a month or so , so with our new addition above jettajam1 , I believe we will have 6 of us !

Yup I'm running C+. Great stuff like all Redline products. It definitely makes a difference in shifting in the extreme cold. Before it would be a little sluggish to shift when it's close to 0F. With C+ it shifts virtually the same no matter what temp it is out. It's all I will be running in my trans going forward.

Looking forward to doing this upgrade. I also plan on doing 30/60/90 day reviews on temps and shifting characteristics with the addition of the C+
