2018 ram 2500, sometimes 2nd - 4th gears are sluggish and shifts hard, Would it be worth changing valve body? Been trying to do some research and cannot t be confident that this will fix issue!! Truck has 160000 miles and has the 68rfe trans!! Do tow a fifth wheel couple times a month during the summer and don’t want be stranded!! Any suggestions, ideas would be greatly appreciated!!

Fluid and filter would be the first step if that hasn't been done lately. The valve body on Ram transmissions is known to be problematic but I'm not sure I'd throw a new one at it without some more research and diagnosis.

Is the behavior you note new or has it always been like that? Ever go into "limp mode?" (that's when you're locked out of all gears but 1 & 4). Does it shift the same with Tow/Haul engaged?

I am due for filter/fluid change, last done around 70k, only had 1 code pop up a few months ago, think it was 871? Was pulling camper in rush hour traffic, checked fluid and it was a little low. Has been sluggish for ever but hard shift has just started! Have not hit limp mode yet…. Really thinking about taking chance and go with the revmax valve body… Do you know if I can do the “relearn” with the obd link lx?
I do appreciate your input!!

I'm not sure about the relearn.... I thought it just did it automatically? I'm far from a mechanic but have been through a couple failures with my 66RFE (Hemi version of the tranny). I've been pretty disappointed in the shifting of my truck since new but figured the diesel version was better since the ratios were intended for your diesel (Ram went cheap and used the same ratios for my gasser and they suck for that application). I suppose the upgraded valve body can't hurt. It's a pretty quick DIY, right?

I would do solenoid switch with that VB in this case, if that is what you are going to do. If you aren't in an itching hurry, I'd take a pig and a poke and give this a run, no kidding I have had it fix transmissions, one time so unbelievable I don't even like to say it because it sounds like a tall tale, but trust the burl. How does transmission operate in tow haul mode= better, worse or no different? answer that question its important.

Seems. And in t/h mode, trying to finger out how to do relearn before I start this. Have the Alfa obd but can seem to find my transmission, any ideas?
