2016 Ram. My radio is slow activating on initial startup when temps are 40 or below. It has a black screen about 2 minutes before coming on. Is this normal ? Works fine when it activates.

I'd be interested to know what happens when you pull the inline radio fuse and plug it back in while the truck is running. It might isolate if the problem is on the radio or a command from the truck.2016 Ram. My radio is slow activating on initial startup when temps are 40 or below. I'm wondering if it's something else other than temperature. THe next thing I would want you to try is tomorrow morning when it's nice and cold, turn the vehicle to run but DO NOT start the engine. Observe the length of time it takes to boot (same/different?) and perform this same test but leave the engine off, vehicle in run (don't remove the key), pull fuse, re-insert fuse, and see if the radio boots up immediately after receiving power (with engine off key in run).Seems to reboot 5 sec or so. When temp warms almost instant on.
I'm not sure if the Fusebox one has anything else on it and I want the radio only to lose power.Whats the difference pulling rge fuse box fuse and the in line fuse? #49 fuse deactivates it as well
I'm wondering if the radio isn't the issue but the signal from the BCM to power on the screen isn't being sent/received until that time for some reason. Do you have AlfaOBD?No change pulling fuse. Instant on to 5 sec. However temp is mid 40’s. Dont know if temp has anything to do with it or not. Doesnt see to be the power.
Cold solder joint could cause this.Had a complete diagnosis run when I took truck in to find UO155 issue. Radio didn’t show any issues. Only issue was miscommunication to power steering. Odd that it lags with temps in the 30’s or below and when inside, or outside temp goes up, works fine.
I have a 2018 RAM 2500 CD & I had all kinds of issues with my U-Connect/heat & def/NAV/Audio/heated seats not working when the temps were 28F or colder. I would also get a "black" screen & sometimes "grey". As the temps would warm-up above 28, I would gradually regain all the components that were affected. Trust me, nobody could figure it out & since I don't live in a very cold climate, I had to wait & wait & wait & wait & wait until the winter months & then "hopefully" have temps 28F or colder. The dealership would not accept a personal video of the problem, for I had to drive it in & let them actually see the problem. I literally had to leave it on a Sunday night when temps were hovering 18F & told the dealership to not even open the door to my truck until I was there on Monday morning!! Finally, the Service Mgr was able to visually see the components not working but it still took 3-4 yrs before Corporate told them to replace the entire screen! So far, I have not had anymore issues & a couple years ago on Christmas Eve, our temps here in Asheville, NC were "zero" (very uncommon) & all my components worked fine. I hope this helps!2016 Ram. I'd recommend a UAQ or UAS (with NAV without respectively). The last poster may be on to something too though. It's possible if you open it up and re-seat the ribbon cable for the display the issue goes away.May update radios with a different one. Reading other articles about issues with oem’s. Any suggestions which one for a replacement? Maybe worse with a used one. Thought about screen replacement but could be the radio.
Those are the 8.4" 2018+ radio models.UAQ, UAS ?
Thank you. Don’t know what I’ll do.
No Problem! If it were me, I'd start with the ribbon cable (free fix). Unless you wanted to add Android Auto and CarPlay, then I'd look into the newer UAQ/UAS radios. If money is an issue, a replacement for your RA3/RA4 (without NAV/with NAV respectively), you can find replacements fairly easily and for considerably less online.Thank you. Don’t know what I’ll do.
