Hello all. I just wanted to know who makes the 8 speed tranny in my '19 2500 HD with the 6.4. Is it domestic or foreign? There is no dip stick for the oil which doesn't make happy. I pull a 20 foot camper and fully loaded I'm thinking weighs around 6500 with the firewood and 500lbs. of water. I'm really happy with the truck. It doesn't care if the camper is hooked up or not. Anyhow, if anybody has any info on the 8 speed please share. Thanks, Bob

It should be the 8hp90 in your 2500. It's made by ZF transmissions. Tons of posts on how to service them yourself on here.

The lack of a dipstick does suck and they have to be refilled and level checked from underneath the truck, but the process of dropping and replacing the plastic pan w/ integrated filter isn't too bad. Have to use a fluid pump to refill them.

It’s an 8hp75. 90 is in the hellcats. Ram produces them under the rights of zf which is a German company

Thanks Poman and Crazykid. If it is a German company might it be Mercedes?

If there is no dipstick , is the process of refilling similar to a rear end......pump in fluid until it starts to seep out ?

Assuming a drain plug below and fill plug above.

Bothers me a little as I'm a heckler for checking fluids.

There is a procedure for checking the level of the fluid that involves the trans being level, at a specific temperature and ran through certain RPMs before checking the level.
Unless the transmission is leaking, there is no where for the fluid to go, that's why most manufacturers have done away the dipstick. The TCM will protect the trans due to temperature/slippages and will most likely have a mechanical failure causing the fluid to burn not the other way around.

Thanks Crazy for the ZF information. That was a lot of info that I didn't have. Sounds like a good company and a good tranny. Thanks again.
