Well I have had a total failure of my rear end. The carrier broke and sent crap all over and messed up the gear set with only 14k on it. It was an Auburn which I will be throwing into the garbage can. I think the Auburn was my issue as I got 100k out of it but it is gone!

I wanted to see what you all thought would be my options.

1) swap to another axle:
I have not liked the 9.25 and the pinion recall etc it has been garbage and I probably should have let Dodge buy it back.

2) rebuild again with the following parts
YG C9.25-456 - Yukon gear set
AK 6410 axle bearings and seals
913A368 Eaton Detroit Trutrac
Master kit with Koyo or Timken bearings.

Anyone swapped the 4th gen to a better/stronger rear axle?

Auburn failed, what in the heck were you doing to that truck? Im also curious to what can swap in. How hard would it be to swap in a 2500 axle.

I think it just wore out. It had about 100k on it. My mechanic said the carrier broke. And prices of the Auburn were laying in there.

Yikes. I just put an Auburn in mine a month ago. What gear oil were you running with that, just curious?

Wow that blows man, hope you get her goin again. I put an auburn in about a year ago with no issues so far. Imho I would go with Moog or koyo, haven’t had much luck with Timken anything. Anyway, good luck bud.

I went with Koyo this time.

I have done both Koyo and Timken. I did read that Koyo bought Timken so they are probably the same now anyway.

I was running Redline 75W-140 no friction modifier. Had about 13,500 miles on the fluid and my mechanic says it looks like it has 130,000 on it. Probably not redline issue but rather the Auburn failed and destroyed the rest.

I know they recommend 80w90 conventional with the modifier, I'm running Redline 75w140 now with the modifier in it already and just wondering if I should go with the recommended weight.

I agree on the fluid likely not being the issue. I have about 12k on my Redline 75W-140 in my rear differential , I inspected my fluid about a week ago and it looks , feels and smells brand new .

My 14 Ram with the factory rear differential .355 ratio ( anti-spin) recommends 75W-140

I know the factory recommends 75w140, but Auburn specifically states synthetics are not recommend and they list 80w90 with modifier as the recommended gear oil combo.

Yes I know that. I should have not bought the Auburn because where I live Dino gear oil doesn’t work well. It is too cold and my truck sits outside. I have ran it to try it but hated it. Auburn was okay still made it 100k pretty decent for an LSD.

I mean, Redline is great, I use their engine oil and it's the reason why I put it in the diff to begin with but I wonder why, even with the modifier already in the Redline they recommend conventional. I still haven't found a concise answer.

Good point. Wasn't trying to say you made the wrong decision as I went the same route. If you made it 100K there's probably nothing to worry about.

I read the synthetic is too slippery and polishes the clutches making them grip less. Doesn’t help with them basically grenading though.

If this is true would not synthetic oil do the same thing to the transmission and the auto transfer case. ?

I believe this would be determined by the type of cluch material from one component to the other ... meaning the clutch in a LSD Differential may not be the same as a xsmn or xsfer case in fact different manufacturers of Differentials " LSD " may have different types of clutches requiring significantly different types of lubrication.
