Hello everyone ..... wonder if anyone else is having the same problems. I have a 2015 5.7 1500 Ram Express with 48k on her. Yesterday I turned the a/c on and it would not blow cold air. I also noticed when turning the fan to max speed sometimes it would blow fast and now this morning the max fan speed shuts the fan off completely. I’m not sure if these two problems are related or two separate issues. I checked the fuse for the compressor and it is not blown. I let the truck sit running at idle and put on the ac and the compressor does not turn on. I’m going to go out with a test light to the compressor plug to see if it is getting power. Any search input to make this troubleshooting any easier would be much appreciated. Thank you!

If it's really low on refrigerant the compressor will not turn on. I'd get that checked first.

if you have a set of gauges check the pressure with compressor off. I haven't done too much on automotive systems but it likely has a low pressure switch ( would be on suction line) that would open the circuit to the compressor if it is low or out of gas.

Check the label in the engine bay for what refrigerant you have, I believe around 2015 they changed to 1234YF. 134A gauges I don't believe will work on a 1234YF system...

Hi @Thewetdream,

We certainly understand why this would be concerning. If you're not able to determine a solution based on suggestions from fellow forum members and you decide to address this with your dealer, please let us know via private message. We would be more than happy to provide you with an additional layer of assistance for that process.

having worked on commercial refrigeration 38 years, a set of gauges is still your best friend.
you can get a decent set at harbor freight and likely order a set of adapters from amazon as have heard that this R1234YF adapters are different from R134A.
until buying the ram 4 months back had never heard of R1234YF, guess is an automotive gas but if had to recharge mine ( after fixing the leak) would go with 134A as the pressure temp chart is close at the evaporating temp that an AC system would run.

I had an A/C issue with my 2015 around the same mileage. One day, it just stopped blowing cold air. I ended up taking it to the dealer since they're were able to test the 1234YF refrigerant. My issue turned out to be electrical in nature as the previous owner (or someone else) appeared to mess with the wiring near the compressor. They re-wired that area and were able to get it going in short order. They did a leak test and a pressure test, both were okay.

Separate from this, my A/C compressor is noisy from inside the cab. I notice it whining at lower RPMs such as idling or parking lot driving. It's been like that for almost three years, so it's not causing a problem but it is sure annoying.

So far I’ve figured out that unfortunately my year truck has the all in one blower/resistor unit. Like years past you could swap out the resistor and you are good to go, but I’m going to have to buy a complete unit. I’ll try to go from there. For some reason just seems really convenient to me that this blower unit and my ac isn’t blowing cold and I’m going to fix that first before poking around anything else. The blower unit i took apart and it’s not like a simple resistor ...... this thing has a circuit board, and after reading a little here and there that this compressor turns on by the computer in the truck telling it to and if this circuit board in the motor has to give the computer a reading to crack the clutch on would make sense. Another joke is the clutch relay is built into the fuse box like underneath because I was going to pull the relay and manually run the compressor to see if I got any action but I can’t do that either. I’ll keep you updated trying to locate a blower today.

The fan in my 2015 will vary speed depending on the vehicle speed. I'm guessing it uses passive air coming in from outside and if you're going fast enough it will just let the air in without running the blower.

I don't know if I'm right, I just assumed it because when I hold my anemometer to the vents the air speed is pretty constant whether the blower is running or not.

pretty sure that’s the signs I was getting of the changing speed of this thing going bad...... I’m in the truck not moving and it’s changing speeds

I had a whining sound in mine. Finally pulled air ducts and found small blockage. The whistling/whining is possibly something inline that causes airflow to be disrupted enough to create a sound but not enough to be noticeable as restricted air flow out of the vent. Lived with it for three years before I had enough.

Ah, so mine is different.

The only time my fan changes speed is if I'm getting up to or slowing down from highway speed. It's done it from brand new so I've honestly never questioned it especially since the air speed remains constant.

I should clarify that the noise only occurs with the "A/C" button active. It does not occur with just the fans running. If there was a blockage, I would hear it in either case. That said, it's probably not a bad idea to check.

That sounds like a vacuum leak then, maybe(?). Sorry cannot help more.

The outside air coming through the HVAC system come through under the cowl. The fan forces the air into the vehicle, it doesn't just blow in from the outside.
Only the trucks with ATC will automatically vary the blower speed based on the temperature set point.

I think Ram stopped using vacuum with the '08 model yr trucks. I know everything +'13 is all electric actuators.

Unfortunately I'm catching up to some changes, I had my 2003 for 16 years.

Soooooo...... I’m a idiot....... let me explain..... TRUCK IS FIXED COMPLETELY AND NEEDED NOTHING LOL!!!! I plugged new fan in without even installing it and went for the highest fan speed .... it turned on for literally a sec and shut off. Did this several times and it repeated the same one sec run and off. About two months ago I had to replace my aftermarket back up cam and had the dash apart. Today I pull the dash back apart looking for one of my errors somewhere like me maybe slicing a wire somewhere while cutting zip ties and I start checking the plugs that go to the electronic shifter and hvac making sure their all locked in by a little tug first. Wouldn’t you know the one the controls the hvac comes right off. When I replaced the camera I never pushed it in all the way till it clipped. Long story short everything is put back together. Fired the truck up, fan works on all speed settings and the ac is so cold I’m freezing in the truck while writing you this post embarrassed and proud of it?! Haha thank you all for your time I really appreciate it.
