I traded my 2018 Dodge 1500 Tradesman for a new 2020 Dodge Ram 1500 Warlock 2WD and like the interior and multi-media unit: 8.4" screen and other interiors and cloth seats. I will hope to keep this pickup for many years and wonder if anyone else has this same type of vehicle. What do I need to know about these type of pickups? The finance officer at the dealer kept pushing me to add additional warranty and says my pickup is nothing more than a computer running while driving. He would charge me $4,000.00 for up to 100,000K that comes along with free oil changes for a year. Is it worth it to add additional extended warranty? I plan to drive my vehicle only 5,000 per year and keep it for a long time.

Sounds like a nice truck! I do love the look of the warlocks.

Dealers all try to push their extended warranty contracts. Tons of threads here with people arguing the pros and cons on them, but either way, $4000 is too high. You'd be way better off leaving that $4K in an account to be used for car repairs should you need them. I always entertain the idea of buying one if the price is right, but it's got to be a lot less than $4K.

Congrats on the new Ram.

To put it bluntly, $4,000 is a rip off and the "finance officer" is attempting to rob you without using a gun. Go to the following link and you can input the exact same warranty he was offering you but will find it is much cheaper. I've purchased from Zeigler over the past ten years and they are an honorable company. Use the discount code DAMON2 and you will get $200 off and can finance it for a year with no interest...or use PAYINFULL and you will get a $365 discount but must pay in full when you purchase it (no ability to finance it with Chrysler).

Thank you for that information and will look at ones once I reach 25,000 miles.

It must be their talking points, everyone that I have purchased them from all say they are just computers....uuggghh

Like buying XM, say NO 3-5 times, until they get price down.
I bought a 5 year/bumper to bumper on my new Jeep, $1900

I purchased the 8 year 125k maxcare as they no longer offer the lifetime. Price seems high but I plan to keep the truck for 15 to 20 years as long as it keeps running. Warranty is kind of a protection until I've got my truck and wife's truck paid off. Positive is, if I don't ever have to use the warranty it will be refunded and I'll be able to afford a 6 inch BDS lift and new tires when the truck is paid off.

get a quote on, go back to dealer and them to beat it.
If you are going to pay cash the warranty.
thats what I did in 2013 when I bought my truck, and they beat the same warranty price I found on line.

The cost of the warranties is negotiable....and it's been said...but $4000 for a 100K warranty is highway robbery. I paid like $2200 for mine for 6 years/100K. Even that was probably a bit high.

The other thing...and I can attest to this. Make sure (if you get a warranty through a dealer) that it's a factory warranty. I bought my truck...didn't read the fine print back in 2017 and come to
find out 2 hours later after I got home that it was through some 3rd party warranty company that had horrid reviews online. I drove back to the dealership and demanded they change it (politely).
They did...and it didn't cost me any extra to get the factory warranty.

If a dealership can upsell you on a warranty, or sell you a 3rd party warranty, they make extra $$$$ on the sale overall.

Emissions is Federal Mandate to 7 years (??). Powertrain is 3 years/36K. Chrysler UCOnnect it the same for every Dodge out there , wrecking yards are full of Touch Screens and processors. Extended warranties don't cover anything that typically needs replacing. Tire, brakes, belt, wipers, fluid changes, these are wear/maintenance items.

I never get an extended warranty, to be honest, I never buy a "new" vehicle. Closest I get it low mileage Certified when offered with a 7 year/100K powertrain.

You have to remember this - the highest-paid salesperson in a vehicle dealership is the finance and insurance person.

From pimping aftermarket mechanical breakdown insurance (because it’s not really a warranty if it doesn’t come from the factory) to the snake oil “VIN etching” and “paint sealer” that person generates more gross profit for the dealership than any other salesperson.

Aftermarket MBI has an extremely high markup (read: profit margin) for the dealer.

If you just bought a new 2020 Ram truck just know that any one of the three levels of extended factory warranty from FCA is available for you to purchase anytime during the first three years and 36,000 miles.

The dealership doesn’t make much on selling the FCA warranties, and I’ve never seen one do it. If you ask about it, they always trash talk it.

For sure on that, but some stuff is also covered for 7/70 or longer by federal or state emissions warranty. Things like the catalytic converters, EVAP components, ECM, fuel tank, etc..

It varies from manufacturer and of course FCA is pretty flimsy on their coverage.

Powertrain of 5yr/60k is even better. I didn't buy new (to be honest, haven't bought new truck or car of any make in over 20 years) , so didn't pay attention to it.

Typically new VEHICLE sales is smallest profit center within a dealership, the lion's share is made in the service department, financing kick backs, extended warranty sales, paint sealant, used car sales, etc.

I heard the other day, that 55% of owners with extended warranties NEVER make a claim. I agree with many on here, take your $4,000 and put it into a vehicle maintenance rainy day fund.

One thing I learned is that you can't just say "no means no" and blow your **** whistle, you have to let them at least go through the motions and give you the song and dance before politely declining, and then they give you the treatment like you just killed their beloved family dog and should feel ashamed, lol! Also I had to be wiling to walk away when they said they could only discount some of those fees (including window etching you mentioned) since it was already on that vehicle, so had to politely decline and say its a shame but we'd have to find a similar vehicle without it then, and that finally did the trick to drop those extra fees even though we had already asked for an "out the door" price from the get-go.

if your only going to drive it for 5000 miles a year, I don think it would be worth it to get one.
It will take 20 years for you to get 100k miles on your truck.
The warranty probably has a 7 year/100k mileage limit, so in 7 years you will only have 35k miles on your truck.

My dealer wanted $3900.00 for the same FCA warranty that I bought for 1455.00 from chryslerwarrantydirect. I think the dealer does make a lot selling them.

You mean FCA warranties? Simply look at the plan numbers and you can do the comparison. I've purchased all of my FCA warranties from them going back years and they are always genuine. Once purchased, you get the paperwork via email and in the mail, and can actually see the FCA warranty on the My Ram app under your vehicle(s). A great product backed by FCA and not some insurance company.

And lets face it, if the dealer is selling him an aftermarket warranty for $4,000 then he is really getting ripped off. Aftermarket non-factory extended warranties are like burning money in a fire. An FCA Maxcare extended warranty for Ram/Jeep/Dodge/Chrysler vehicles is the only way to go...otherwise don't bother buying an extended warranty at all.
