They're a novel idea, but jut one more thing to go wrong IMO.
I'd be VERY interested to hear how they affect mileage on identical highway runs, all other controlled variables removed.

At low city speeds the fan should still pull enough air around the shutters. They are not against the rad. It could be a failing temp sensor that's throwing the engine cooling system out of wack. I would make sure they run a complete system diagnostic.

It's all about CAFE; every .01% counts. BTW it works for NASCAR...(tape).

My buddy just designed a shutter system for the new Camaro for GM for his senior project
He said the gear system is so finicky that he was supposed they still meshed right when the got it across campus to the design showcase

Yeah, that's how forums work. People come here to complain and resolve. One person out of many doesn't make this an epidemic.

All vehicles have issues. **** my battery died on my 11' at 1300 miles. Dead as a doorknob! Other than that, been an absolute dream truck. **** happens when you party naked!

that's a bummer. And while I don't entirely understand Ram's placement of the active grill shutters, they can make a decent difference depending on the vehicle / driver.

That's the big thing, I'd say an average drive with a single 'gas it and pass em' pass, even one, would negate the benefits of an active grill shutter on a 50 mile trip on the highway.

Small aero mods just don't make a big difference on a brick like our trucks.

Wonder how they are working on the Dart? They have the shutters too.

These few issues will get worked out, it wouldn't deter me from buying a 2013. FWIW, if I had those shutters, I think I'd find a way to lock them open or remove them. But, I'm always more interested in performance than gas mileage.

Agreed. And if you see someone driving their RAM like a Nascar, call the Sheriff because that's not safe.

This. The Ram already had the best aero of the big 3 half ton pickups. I doubt the shutters are worth much mpg, the air ride suspension would make a big difference though. Getting this brick closer to the ground on the highway should make a difference.
