I was showing a friend my truck today when we got into the discussion about the cruise control. I said I had the Adaptive cruise control where it slows you down according to the vehicle in front of you. I told him about my experience with my F150 and now the Ram of it just slamming on the breaks when it detects something it doesn't like.

Which got me to thinking, when it does that do th break lights come on? Or does it just slam on the breaks with out warning to anyone behind you?

Also, you can control how aggressive the auto-braking is in the settings via uConnect.

Thanks. I don't plan on using it, I just don't trust all the electronics, but I am old.

Only time it gets unnerving is letting it take you all the way stopped when tracking another behind another vehicle. Works good for if your cruising on the freeway and just want to keep pace with traffic but I'm guessing you probably don't even use cruise control which more people should use on the freeway.

and never open a door while moving...i was at a lumber yard and i had to back up while my door was open.....surprise!! took me a few to figure out what happened.

so, over the years i learned to cancel the rear sensors when the gate is down, or not to back into weeds, turning it off when the trailer is hooked up too. It will remind you in a very abrupt way!

I use cruise control most of the time on the interstate's. If I am in heavy traffic I turn it off.

I learned this from my brother. He has a Gladiator ands was backing up his Jet Ski trailer, there was a small post he needed to avoid so he opened his door to look for it. He cussed for a bit when it kept stopping. I laughed just because I could.

That may just be a 1/2 ton thing. Not sure. I've never had it happen on either of my 2500's.

The open door in reverse thing has gotten me a couple times. Pretty irritating. Sometimes I just have to put the selector in park, kill the engine and start all over from scratch.

But I like the adaptive cruise control for the most part as it keeps me from running up on the bumper of a slower car without having to kick it off. However sometimes I wake up to the realization that I’m running 15 mph below the speed limit behind a Sunday driver poking along.

If my 2500 is reversed S L O W L Y …the rear sensors will warn me abot obstructions…. but NOT if I back up at a speed nearing a “walk”

It's a ZF 8spd thing, even the newer 2500s(2019 and newer 6.4s) that has shift by wire will put itself into park when the door opens and the occupant doesn't have a seatbelt on or the brakes are not depressed. Buy a 3" seatbelt extension and leave it plugged in.
Although I always have to advocate for the innocent truck doors that could get needlessly damaged due to reckless person moving a vehicle with the door open.. Just keep the door closed.

I would assume the lights come on... but???? Then again I hit a light pole @50MPH with no air bags deployed. Plus RAM Service lied to me when I called requesting any RECALLS and they told me none when in fact there was.

I'm old too, but absolutely love the adaptive cruise. I still use my side mirrors to back up though, just can't get use to the screen reverse view. :)

I use mine all the time on my 300 wish my ‘17 Ram had adaptive. That being said when I switch to driving the Ram with cruise on I sometimes forget it’s not adaptive. Definitely keeps me on my toes

I know what you mean. My Bronco didn't have it, when my wife drove it I would have to remind her is didn't slow you down when you where approaching someone. She almost rear ended a semi.

Another time I had driving her F150 with it. I was in the passenger seat watching the speed. I asked her if she was going to go around the person or just sit behind them doing 10 under. She wasn't even aware she had slowed down.

I have a love hate relationship with technology.

I've found the best time to use it is on a 2 lane highway. It keeps me a safe distance
from the car in front of me. Many of the 2 lane highways here in Texas have a speed
limit of 70 MPH and many drivers don't always drive that fast. When an opportunity
to pass these slower vehicles comes along I just cancel the cruise, pick up speed and
pass. When I get back in the travel lane I reset my cruise and motor on down.

You don’t even have to cancel. Just step on the gas pedal and it over rides ACC, then when you take your foot off the gas, it automatically goes back to the set speed.

I see in your moniker that you are/ were an ACME engineer! So, how was it designing devices to aid the coyote in his pursuit of the roadrunner!? ;)
