I did search this with no luck, only a couple of threads that did not resolve. I want to add a USB port to the centre console where the phones sit rather than running a cord out of the top arm rest USB port. I thought this was going to be easy ;<( I ordered a Mini USB Y cord and a mini USB to 2.0 USB adapter. There is a junction under the console where a mini USB male joins a female so I just added my Y to that. It all connects fine but I dont get data transfer, just charging. The adapter says it supports data transfer up to 480mbps, is this not fast enough? I thought it may be the Y cable but just plugging the adapter (without the Y cable) into the trucks mini USB and then into the phone does not get me data to the radio (android auto). This is way out of my knowledge base so I was hoping someone would know what I'm doing wrong.... please. This is the adapter I tried: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B015ORX70S?ref=ppx_pt2_dt_b_prod_image

If your looking to run AndroidAuto, go wireless. I run the AAWireless module with a factory UAQ radio. Works great, AA is usually running on the radio with 30 seconds of starting the truck. Not having to plug the phone in to use AA is a definite game changer.
I use a good Q3 charger in the center console power port .if I need to charge the phone.

@Evguy1 I have the original AAWireless module, they have since released version 2.
I believe they sell them on Amazon also.

You might need to add a relay to turn the media USB port off when the truck is turned off as the phone may try waking the radio up.

Thanks for the info and links I will go that way. I added a USB port down by the phone holder so it can charge the phone.

IF you get AAwireless, it has a setting to enter power saving mode if it doesn't see the radio turned on by checking for it's bluetooth connection. This prevents the phone from connecting unless the key is in the ignition.

IN order for Android Auto to work, the phone MUST connect to the USB hub in the truck (not just the cable it's plugged into).

So some magic happens in the hub? I'm just an analog guy and assumed that the cable caries the signal. I suppose that's why I'm still fighting with CANBus on my cummins swap.

Correct, it needs to see the drivers of the compatible hub. The cable alone will read data so you can plug a USB into it and play MP3s and/or flash firmware BUT the hub is required for AA/CP connectivity.
