After reading a lot on the forums I called around to find what Oil Change Stations had...recommended and pricing
Performance shop say 5W-20 Redline..w K& N filter $250
Lub Station Says Penzoil Ultra premium..$195..0W-40 weight..will put in my filter
Dealership says Penzoil Ultra Pro..$120 5W20

Any suggestions from you guys who know? Seems like a huge diff in price..weight etc

I have: 2021 Ram 1500 5.7 Hemi Classic...any Help is appreciated..I useually go 7 K Km between Changes with filter. Truck has 26000 KM
I have a Wix 57060XP....filter in the garage that I p[lan to use on oil change.
Thanks

If you park outside I would be hesitant to run 0W40 in the winter in Sask. I did year round but I have a heated garage.

I run Redline 5W30 now. If you don't mind the cost you could use Redline 0W30 in the winter and 5W30 in the summer.

If you don't have the Hemi tick mine ran nice on the 5 PUP 5W30 with 2 0W40 too. I would think that would flow pretty well in the winter.

With Synthetic I go 10,000 km or about 6000 miles between oil changes.

There is a massive Synthetic oil thread here that has a ton of good info too.

Recently, Canadian tire had PUP for $37/5L jug, 0w20 5w20 and 5w30. $120 at the dealer isn’t too bad.

If you park outside, buy an oil pan heater and use 5w30 IMO.

Great info guys. Yep my Baby Warlock never sees outside when parked. Heated garage was the best thing. I am going with the 5W-20 PUP and the Wix filter. Also have some Lubeguard Bio Tech coming to add in...that is about as good as I can do for my boy!

0W-20 is the recommendation from RAM Canada for winter use. it's what I run, and what most of the fleets I've worked with run.

A 5w is the next best option, and would be a compromise I'd consider only if I was looking for a 30 or 40 option. Other members here have various reason they run 30 or 40 weights over the 20 recommended by RAM.

Hi Dave, where did you find the Lubeguard in Canada? The only place I've found it so far is Amazon.ca and it's $50 for a 15 oz jug.

0W-20 makes much more sense.

I had my truck at a Ram dealer for a 'Piece of mind' service package on 24th October and they used 5W-20 which doesn't give me much satisfaction.

They also failed to install my Fram XG-2 filter, claiming it wouldn't fit.

I park in a small unheated barn and I'm tempted to change to 0W-20 and either the XG-2 or the slightly smaller XG-10575, whichever I can fit myself. Although, I have more faith in my local shop to get the job done.

What’s a pan heater? Kidding. But seriously. I think the coldest I saw last year was in the upper 30°f for less than a day. Not enough to even freeze anything. That engine calls for 5w20. Penzoil ultra is what I run but I run 5w30 instead. Not sure why one place recommended 0w40. I mean I do know why but I don’t at the same time. I ran the Fram xg2 filter on my truck before installing the remote filter mount. I still run the xg2 now that I’ve swapped back to a stock setup remote filter mount. I contemplated running the srt filter but I don’t remember if it’s synthetic media or paper and I’m to lazy to search the pages to find out.

I wouldn't run that **** in a lawnmower... lol..
My wife’s new rav4 specs 0w16… but has a lifetime power train warranty and free oil changes twice a year for 4 years… so until I’m doing the oil changes it’ll get 0w16. At least Toyota specs full synthetic 0w16.

Not sure why some are afraid to run PUP 0w40 in the winter, I looked the pour point of both 0w20 & 0w40, was surprised that 0w40 had a lower pour point then 0w20 by 3 degrees, the pour point of 0w20 is -48, the pour point of 0w40 is -51, I see not reason it cant be used year round being a lot of engines ran 5w oil in sub zero temps for many years before 0w oil was available....

Toyota probbaly designed the Engine to run on it. Unlike FAC just trying to pretend the HEMI is fuel efficient by telling people to run the worst oil you can for that engine and adding useless MDS.

They used to spec 0w20 for the same engine in the 2022 model. She bought the 2023 model and that’s when they started specing the 0w16

Thanks for the link. I'll call them later today to see if shipping to Ontario will be too costly.

If Homeland Security would just open the damned border without all the included stupidity, I could just drive 25 minutes to Walmart in Ogdensburg NY, or my post office box, just like I have for ages.

BTW, my Tundra usually sounded awful during cold starts using 5W20 with any temperature below about -25C. And that's on the warm end of the scale when we have a serious cold snap.
