My advise on installing long tube headers---BEFORE you install the headers, make sure you have insulated or wrapped any wires or lines that are close to the header tubes. This includes the brake line and fuel line that are attached to the inside of the frame rail. If possible these two lines need to be moved up to the hole that is about 3" above where they are attached right now. The transmission cable should wrapped and/or use the relocation bracket to keep it away from the header tubes. Make sure you route and zip tie all the wires as far away from the header tubes as possible, cause those tubes get realllllly hot. If you have any of the "black cable covering plastic", you can use it to cover the O2 extention wires. It won't prevent them from burning through if they contact the header tubes but it does make for a "neater" looking installation. If you don't do these things, it is a pain in the ass to try to do it afterwards. I didn't do it, and I am almost to the point of having the headers removed and selling them. Way to much hassle. The plus side is the substantial increase in power and acceleration after the re-tune.

Wrapping the headers also helps Jay,lol. My JBA's are wrapped, plus I used DEI's stick on heat shielding to cover and protect the lines on the drivers side frame rail.Headers have been on for 4 years now, with no issues with melting any of the lines, and the 1 7/8's JBA's run very close to the lines. My only issue has been with putting a big enough dent in the front primary tube to clear the steering shaft,i've had the headers off a couple times to do other mods, and I think I've finally got a big enough dent whacked into them to clear the steering shaft, lol.

Rick, add link for DEI stick on heat shielding please sir & how much you used.
I'm familiar with the header wrap but not the heat shielding.

Thanks
Johnny

Rick--I wrapped the header that was right next to the brake and fuel line but I am still not very comfortable with that. I'd like to try to raise those lines up on the frame a little, I just don't know how ridged those lines are. If I can get them moved without bending them much I would feel a lot better. I think I've got the trans cable wrapped pretty good. I think I've got most of the other lines wrapped and zip tied out of the way and they shouldn't be much of a problem. I'm also trying to find a lift somewhere I can "rent" for about an hour so I don't have to lay on my back on the cold ass concrete. When I read about the shielding they said that the adhesive wan't that good and in my case I'm not sure I have enough room to put anything else between the lines and the header. The wrap is already around the header in that spot..

Jay is it possible to put header wrap around those lines also?
Thanks

Hey Jay how close were you to the brake lines inside the frame rail before you wrapped?
I just installed my ARH LTs
about 2 weeks ago and had about 5/8” at the closest spot on the lines
It’s been brutally cold and snowy here so I haven’t been able to look for any damage, little nervous now..

No, they fit right next to the frame rail and snap into that plastic block that is attached to the frame right at the place that is the closest to the header. If I can relocate them upward a few inches to that top hole I think that will sorta solve the problem. Matt told me about that and I told the installer about it---twice---and he still didn't do it. If nothing else I'm going to have to drive down to San Antonio again. **** This is becoming less and less fun-------

6 speed---I didn't have that much room---I had to almost force the wrap around the header tube. The tube is almost touching the plastic block where the lines go through. This might be much about nothing, but I just want to make extra sure nothing is going to melt or burn through.

Johnny I bought a 24 X24 piece of this from my local speed shop,it's good for up to 2000F radiant heat.I've had no trouble with it sticking to the frame, and covering the lines.I did wash the frame with soapy water/then wiped it down with acetone before I applied it. It's been stuck to my frame for over 4 years now,and last time I had the headers off it still looked good

I know guys have moved the lines up,but I never moved mine.I think you'd want to move the lines on a warm day Jay,they're a little more pliable then.

Maybe after(if I can) I move the lines this would be something to cover the lines with as "added" insurance. Maybe use a blow dryer or a heat gun on low?????? **** it's 30 outside right now---I know that's not cold to you but I'm freezing my ass off----LOL
suppose to be almost 80 on Friday---

30F that'd be a summer day for us this winter, our average temp through Feb was the second coldest we've had on record up here, and it was -18C or 0F.For us that's cold, our normal average temp here is usually right around 32F in Feb.We had a beautiful Dec and Jan,i was still driving my toy in Jan,then Momma Nature fell off her meds, lol.

Upon reflection-----I want to make one thing perfectly clear--The headers that I had installed were ARH long tubes. There is absolutely nothing wrong with these headers or the way they fit. If you do a few simple things before you install the headers you should not have any problems. See post #20. The problems I am trying to work through are of my own making. We did not move the fuel line and brake line as Matt suggested before installing the headers. That is on me!!!! Do not let any of these problems deter you from looking at and purchasing ARH--they are the best on the market IMHO and the increase in performance is substantial.

Ok-after meeting with my Ram tech friend, he and I had a come to Jesus meeting with the ARH's and my truck. The plastic block was moved to a higher position on the frame rail and the fuel line was raised about an inch further toward the top of the frame rail also. We closely looked for any other wires or lines that might cause any issues and found none. He is as picky as I am so I am satisfied that I shouldn't have any future problems.

So I am curious how they are after 6 months. I ordered a set with catted y last week. they are on backorder till next week. But AFE had the kit on sale from their website. $300 cheaper than anywhere else. I plan on wrapping them too.

I love them. Performance is great. No issues with them, except for the O2 sensors that took a **** on me and had to replace and spend another 500$ on sensors. Now the muffler I installed is a different story. It’s exactly what I ordered. But I shouldn’t have gone with such an aggressive sound for my daily driver.

Nice. Still haven't gotten around to installing yet. Just got them ceramic coated, now to cure them (building a curing oven- both people I know that have one it is down and waiting for parts) and wrap them. It's probably overkill, but hey it's how most of us on here do things. Did you use the hardware that came with the headers or something else?
