I’m at the local dealer today getting the oil changed, last free one. The truck has 13,600 miles on it and the service writer says “ at 15,000 the truck should be scheduled for air induction service, cost is $159.00”. So my question is what is involved in this air induction service? I didn’t bother to ask service writer just said ok, knowing I would get a better answer on this forum. Thanks in advance

Ask your service advisor. Unless someone who works for the dealership wants to answer. A phone call will get it done quicker.

That's where they go in and clean out all the old gunked up oil in your TB that would have been collected in your "Catch Can" had you put one on to prevent this from happening to begin with. lol I'm guessing?

If one uses a low volatility oil, shouldn't require frequent cleaning? Red Line 5W-30 NOACK = 6

Oh, they misspelled a word. They meant to type "Your Wallet" not "Induction"

The keys are right next to each other on the keyboard, easy mistake.

Anyway they get in there and clean out all the extra dollars you have stuck all over the inside of it.

Tray- you hit the nail on the head. I’ll have it done just to avoid any warranty issues down the road

$5 can of Gumout and a rag will accomplish their 'service', but it's your money.

The funny thing with intakes on port injection vehicles, I've been inside dozens of them over the years and some with 250k+ miles had very little gack buildup, some with 100k had kind of a lot.. But none I've ever seen really had so much built up crud in the intake to actually cause any kind of problem. The two worst I ever saw were a Nissan that got fast and furious modified with an exposed cone gauze filter down at the bottom of the bumper and then driven for several years like that.. And a Mitsubishi that got hydrolocked in a mud hole. Everything else... Yeah I clean the whole intake while I'm in there I hate putting dirty parts back together but never have seen an actual fault resulting from dirty intake.
