We are thinking that is likely the best way too. But I’m hopefull that I can at least get it running to be able to drive it on to a trailer to get it there.

Do you know what transmission you have in the truck?

There is a shared config of a Cummins with 68RFE in the shared config folder. not sure if that would help.

A buddy at work has the 6 speed express. If you can give me a couple days I will see if he will let me plug into it and read it. It is a 2013 but it should have enough to get you going.

You do not need any codes to install the 8.4 radio but if you want to do the full conversion with the correct bezel you will need to contact M2mods to get a conversion harness. It is all explained in the 4th gen D.I.Y section. Also a word of advice there is no (special programming of the radio) required in order for it to work in your truck as some retailers claim. Any radio from a 13vor newer Ram or Jeep Grand Cherokee will work once you obtain the unlock code for the radio.

What I meant was, sorry for not being clearer, to change it so I get uConnect updates.

The update uses the vin tied to the radio. As long as you have the vin for the radio you'll be able to access the updates. If you are buying the kit from infotainment you'd have to ask them about updates.

You will not be able to get the OTA (over the air updates) in your truck If your truck did not come with the 8.4 radio no matter what codes you add. Chrysler will not send the updates to your Vin#. Many have tried but it would have to be authorized through WIC (warranty information center). You can get the updates off the Uconnect website if you gave the vin# of the truck the radio came out of and just download them yourself.

This is the better way to go anyway, IMHO. Just look at the 2018+ guys that had an OTA forced on them that hosed the sound quality.

I got mine 3 years ago. Radio will come with unlock code, but you will have to request vin.

They had no problem sending it, and I have upgraded via USB 3 or 4 times over its life.

The updates themselves aren't VIN specific, so you could check your current version and then just ask on the forum for someone with their own VIN to get a link to the update.

Yes it is the 6-speed 65RFE with column shift and the column shifter has a + and - on it. I ran across the words AutoStick and I think that might be what it is called.

I’ve seen the settings in Alfa for transmition type and shifter type and I think it’s just a matter of knowing what it is called for sure and any other BCM settings. The PCM (ECM) is still original so it knows how to run the engine and trans. It’s just the BCM that was damaged and had to be replaced.

I saw a setting in the uploaded config that specified the trans model. I would try setting that to see if you can at least drive the truck into the dealer to get the new bcm flashed.

In vehicle config 7, you’re gonna set the shift feature to “ERS”, and trans to 65rfe. Then in ecu config 4, set max gear to 6, and ers available to “set”.

You can get an RA4 on Ebay for around $500. Most of them have the vin# listed with the radio. Make sure it's out of a 13 or newer Ram or Jeep Grand Cherokee. The part # you want for the US version Nav radio is VP4 NA. Most of us source our own parts and buy the conversion harness from M2mods who is a vendor on this forum where the harness was invented that others use. There most likely won't be to many more updates for the RA3 or RA4 radios so as long as it's running the 17xx or higher firmware you will be fine. Once someone downloads the update for there vin# it will show up to date on that vin# and in most cases cannot be downloaded again until another update comes out so it's good to have the Vin# if possible. All of that being said if you decide to go with infotainment they will automatically update the radio to the latest firmware version before they send it to you and there most likely will not be a need to update it in the future but you never know. Also when someone downloads the update to USB stick and updates their radio if it's the same year as your radio you could use the same USB stick to update your radio you would just need to know somebody that had one.

Been reading a lot about alphaobd today cause I need to update my tire size.
I see that everybody uses the obdlink mx. Are there any others our there that work. I'm guessing this one is the best. Just curious.

A few have been using the elm327. It's around ~$15.

I'll give that a try first. If it doesn't work I'm only out a few bucks

Yup. That’s how mine are set from the factory, and you’ll notice the same on the ones in the shared bcm folder.

Just an update on this, I was running a full scan for codes on my truck earlier today and noticed I had one in each door module. Both were the same, "Short Circuit in Puddle Lamp circuit". I went in and turned off the Puddle Lamps Present option in the BCM and cleared the codes. The puddle lights on the mirrors still work and the codes did not return.

@Ghost_RAM
I think we need to remove the "Puddle Lamps Present" setting from the upgraded mirrors section of the Known Working Settings doc. It actually causes a trouble code to be set in each door module, or at least it did on mine. The "Approach Lights present" setting appears to be all you need to make the puddle lights on the underside of the mirrors work.

You would need the bypass cable to make any changes to the BCM. I just got one because I do so many trucks. I haven't used it yet but from what I am seeing it looks extremely simple to install.

Got it. Got OBDlink MX, cable from M2, software on a 6 year old 8” Verizon note pad, changed tire pressure settings today.

Now to figure out this fuel tank thing.

Thanks everyone for posting, been a great help.

PS: Those menus are DEEP. I found the tire pressure settings in the body control module about three levels down, IIRC. I should’ve taken notes.

BUT, one thing that was bothering me a LOT was low fuel warnings and I’d only put in like 24 gallons. Yep, had the system setup for 28 gallon tank reset it for - I THOUGHT - 32 gals and it showed 117 Liters.

WTF?

Yeah, Liters, and that’s 31 gallons.

Bugging me all afternoon, went to dinner and I THOUGHT I had 3/4 of a tank, and it had dropped to somewhre between 1/4 and 1/2 all of a sudden.

AFTER I’d changed settings.

I’d lost my copy of the build sheet a friend of mine printed out from the super secret squirrel dealer website, but I had a scanned copy of the window sticker in my iphone - says 31 gallons.

So it HAD been set for 28. Took 20 gallons to fill up the other night (close to empty), made a couple trips of around 60-70 miles RT and a few side trips, so it made no sense that it would suddenly show I’d lost about 5 gallons.

Now that it’s set for the correct volume, I’ll see how much fuel I put in it when the bingo fuel warnings flash and ping.
