Got the patch installed for the alpha OBD tool and was able to change my tire size without as any issues. I have 35x12.5x20 Toyo Open Country Extreme tires. The closest setting I could find was 35x12.5x18 Toyo Open Country AT tires. My truck came with the Wrangler 275x20 tires. My speedo used to read 3 MPH slow. Now it's extremely close. If anything it may read 1/3 to 1/2 mile per hour slow.

That's awesome. That is the next think I would like to change but he doesn't have a pre-programmed tire size close to what I have right now. Would be nice if he would be willing to add more or just add the ability to input a size.

Question on a couple other changes just so I understand what they do. (Not clear on exactly what some of these changes do that have been listed)

Turning on turn by turn Nav. What does that do? I enabled it but not really sure what to look for to see if it worked?

Same for travel link, What is that and what does it do? Any other prerequisites to get it to work?

Thanks.

The turn by turn in navigation customer CSM basically puts the option to turn the function on and off on your screen in your navigation settings menu. Remember the turn by turn function on that shows up on your EVIC screen wont work unless you're actually navigating somewhere And you have the in option turned on in your settings menue on your radio. Most of the time even if you have not enabled the function to turn it on and off on the screen it's on by default when we install these radios in our trucks. The travel link feature is more for people that have installed the UAQ Nav radio because that radio reads the travel link function right off of your BCM for people that a have thou RA4 radio is not really necessary to turn it on because you can still get Travelink without it.

Dav....while not a complete solution, there is a way to deactivate the stop/start in a 2018 Malibu. It requires you to do this every time you start the car. Tell her to shift into L instead of D and press the + button on the shifter 8 or more times to place the range of the transmission to be from gear 1 to gear 9 (if she has the lower level Malibu with the six speed then L6). In the Driver Information Center, on the dashboard, the transmission gear indicator will show "L9" (or L6 if the 6 speed). Your range of gears will be the full range available in D, and the transmission will shift in L9 (L6) mode in the same way as it does in D mode, but the auto stop/start will be disabled. On the highway, the engine rpm and overall behavior is the same in both modes.

I told her about this, but she is said she dosn't want to go through all that every time. She is an older lady, so she likes to just get in and go.

I actually have a HyperTech tool which allows you to program a certain size but it goes and certain increments and honestly I could not get any closer with that tool than I did by just enabling the 35" tire code. As it sits now though you can only put in codes that are registered in the BCM with the alpha tool but I was surprised that there are actually quite a few different sizes in their.

Figured I would include a picture of the settings menu for the Nav turn by turn in cluster.

I believe the tire sizes come from FCA though, not the dev. The tool wouldn't have the ability to accept a random size input, as you can't freeform the input, it has to be a selection from the list. And the list I would suspect comes from the various tire sizes available on FCA products. The 35" Toyo is only there probably because it might have been available on some factory option/trim level upgrade package from RAM/FCA? Similar to the Raptor, for instance - was there every a special edition Outdoorsman with 35's maybe?

Re the Travel Link, with your 2016 it's a Sirius Subscriber based service available to the RA4 radios, so you would need an RA4 and then the subscription as well. Unless the option is somehow tied to turning on the free promo ie when you buy a truck new? That would be cool lol. I have the Traffic and Travel and feel it's definitely worth the $60 a year to add it to my Sat subscription. In fact I think I am up for renewal this month now that I think about it.

Correct the 2015 and up trucks that come with the RA4 have the Travelink and Traffic free for five years. The 2013 and 2014 trucks only had it for one year. I have had three 2015 and up RA4 radios in my truck and I have been able to transfer the free subscription into my name. The current free subscription on my 2016 RA4 wont expire until 2021.

Thanks guys. I have the RA3 with the Nav activated so looks like I won't have the travel link either way.

Yes unfortunately the RA3 doesn't have the Travelink or Real Time Traffic capabilities.

Yeah I wonder if the 5 year free promo only applies to factory installed at build time - I have RA4 from infotainment, so not original (replacing RA2) and they said no go on getting the remainder of the free 5 year deal. The RA4 actually came out of a 2016 Grand Cherokee, that may be why? Who did you contact to get sub transferred - SirusXM or Ram or other?

Edit - oops sorry way off AlfaOBD topic

So I want to turn on my DRLs on my ram but I have an Apple phone only. Is it still possible with this? What are my options? Also does this give the ability to add Apple CarPlay or is this a totally different level?

Alfa can definitely do your DRLs but unfortunately, it’s only Android or Windows. Look through my sig or the first post for just a few of the things it can do.

No, this will not give you Apple CarPlay. Apple CarPlay is dependent on the radio you have installed.

There are only certain codes the dealer can enable and they usually charge an hour labor so depending on what you want activated they may not be able to help you. 2nd problem is the genies are extremely expensive and only enable certain things. The more you want the more it costs, Also the Genies have been suspect installing certain codes, also and you do not have the ability to remove codes or change them. You can buy the Android Google play app or $49 get a cheap tablet $100 or so and by the OBD link for $79.00 and have a total of Maybe $225 to $250 invested to add or remove any code you want.

Let me put it like this. The dealer wanted me to basically write them a blank check for my DRLs and a few other things. Quoted a minimum of 200+. OBDGenie is 200 but only does DRL. AlfaOBD is 49, the OBDLink MX Bluetooth is 79 and a cheap Android tablet can be had for around 50.

Now, going the Alfa way I’ve been able to activate my DRLs (even though I have the genie), my mirrors (signal, puddle, tilt in reverse), change the splash screens on my 8.4 radio and premium EVIC, enable auto high beams, change my HVAC from MTC to ATC, activate my cargo camera (using it as a front camera) and I’m sure I’m missing others.
