Looking for a little help here 2014 ram 1500 express...I got the Bluetooth odbII (ELM 327)paired it to my tablet started Alfaobd but cannot get it to connect to the body computer... this is the exact error I get when trying to connect

“ Failed!
Interface message: CAN ERROR Connect failed. Verify that key is in MAR and check wiring. Try to turn key to Stop then to MAR and repeat connect.”

Been trying now for about an hour with zero success...

Unfortunately, with all the issues that have been found with the ELM OBDII devices out there (most of which found to be counterfeit devices), they’re just not reliable and will not give you full functionality with AlfaOBD even if fully functional.

This is why the OBDLINK Bluetooth MX is fully supported here as most issues are generally found to be user error and are usually pretty easily helped here.

Works with torque app...
I've heard this same thing and I am not trying to put down ELM products but by and far there have been more issues with them in regards to this software than any other. Sorry

Edit: "ELM327 - based USB / Bluetooth / WLAN interfaces for PC and bluetooth/WiFi-enabled Android and Windows devices. All CAN units are supported and some of K-Line. Make sure the ELM 327 is of version 1.3 and above.
Warning: There are many suppliers of these interfaces, but not all of sold interfaces are compatible with AlfaOBD!
An ebay interface based on an ELM327 clone might work fine if you are lucky. But there are lots of defective interfaces sold which can not establish connection to car ECUs under AlfaOBD. If, when connecting to a car ECU AlfaOBD displays a message "Interface reports NO DATA" or "Interface reports CAN ERROR", this is most probably a sign that you have one of these defective interfaces. Such an interface might work fine with other diagnostic software using OBDII/EOBD protocol, but it can have issues with AlfaOBD because of a different diagnostic protocol used. "

I don't believe so.

http://alfaobd.com/

The software requires a compatible OBD interface. At present the following types of interfaces are supported:

  • OBDLink MX, LX and SX. OBDLink MX is the recommended interface for the cars with high-speed CAN bus on pins 6 and 14 and the middle-speed CAN bus on the pins 3 and 11 of the OBD plug. These are most of the Chrysler/Dodge/Ram/Jeep cars, PowerNet and CUSW-based, Fiat Tipo/Egea. No additional adapters are needed for these cars when using OBDLink MX. Note: Fiat 500X/Jeep Renegade and Compass (MP) require the "grey" adapter for the access to the second high-speed CAN bus.
LX and SX interfaces additionally require "blue" adapter for access to the middle-speed CAN bus.
OBDLink also recommended for the Fiat/Alfa Romeo/Lancia CAN-based cars. The "yellow" adapter might be needed for access to the low-speed CAN bus.
  • OBDKey Bluetooth/USB/WLAN. This is a universal interface supporting all the control units. Especially recommended for the non-CAN based cars.
  • ELM327 - based USB / Bluetooth / WLAN interfaces for PC and bluetooth/WiFi-enabled Android and Windows devices. All CAN units are supported and some of K-Line. Make sure the ELM 327 is of version 1.3 and above.
Warning: There are many suppliers of these interfaces, but not all of sold interfaces are compatible with AlfaOBD!

It is recommended to use an ELM327 interface tested with AlfaOBD.
For example, the interfaces sold by Electronic-Fuchs.de and Obdauto.fr have been tested for compatibility with AlfaOBD.
  • Kiwi 3 Bluetooth LE (Android only). All CAN units are supported and some of K-Line. The interface features very low power consumption.
  • KLLine serial or USB, PC version only due to limitations of Android OS. No CAN support so it is recommended for the non-CAN based cars. For example, interfaces supplied by Electronic-Fuchs.de, Obdauto.fr , and ECUFix.com are supported.

Thanks I guess I'll be buying a new OBD interface.

There’s nothing wrong with trying if you already own one but probably so.

Which BCM are you selecting? If you select the wrong one you will receive an error connecting to CAN bus.

Just a PSA - the issue with using a reader not on the approved list - it may work for some items but not for others - only the specified readers work 100%. So by using a non-standard/non-approved reader, you can wind up chasing your tail tracking down issues that aren't working which might be due to the reader itself.

Best bet is just to buy the correct reader. It's a bargain really compared to paying the dealer for ONE change, so it literally pays for itself right away.

Plus when you post for help you wont have 5 guys asking did you try using an MX :).

According to my BCM config, it should be located in Vehicle Config 4 but it is not showing when connected to my truck. I can email dev and see if this was removed or ever there. Could have possibly been locked out I suppose.
Thanks Ghost. Same for me, no VC4 listed using Win10 version. Will send Alexy an email asking if this can be added or if there is a way to find it.
Curious if those with a '14 using the Android version see the Vehicle Configuration 4 option or not.

I’m waiting to hear back but he is aware. I emailed him earlier this morning and he said he’d look into it.

Not totally sure what I am looking for but I'll go check on my 14 right now.
