All Season tire suggetions with an emphasis on snow. Too expensive to switch back and forth from snow and all seasons.

I think there is some inaccurate terminology being thrown around here. At least different from my understanding when I researched this extensively before buying tires a couple years ago. "All-season" (ironically) are really not meant to shine during winter. Yes, they do okay, especially with 4WD. "4-Season" have a snowflake rating and are more geared towards being a decent snow tire and year-round tire.

I've had decent luck with all-seasons in the snow but really like the new offerings with the 4-season. Specifically, the snowflake rating that makes me compliant over mountain passes. I don't need some insurance company lawyer crawling up my butt because I didn't have a mountain logo on my tires. Do I really notice a difference? Not that I can tell but it's really hard to compare two tires under different conditions, years apart... unless one were to buy tires at the base of a mountain and drive up/down a few hours apart which I'm guessing none of us have.

Anyway, from my research I think the Falkens, Toyos and Coopers all are great and I considered all of them. I ended up with the Coopers, mainly due to the slightly lighter weight and really not needing an aggressive off-road tire but more of an all-around tire that was good in snow/ice and for general on-road usage.

I cant recommend Falken Wildpeak's enough. They are quiet, are lasting nicely, look great, and have excellent performance. I would rate these as the best tires that I've ever purchased. I've had dedicated snow tires on vehicles and winter tires on others. These tires feel almost as good in snow as a winter tire.

They are three peak rated.
How are they in the rain and which model are you running ?

Hey forum,

I live in Central NY where we can get a lot of snow. I also live at the end of a 1/2 dirt road that is not maintained by the state and sometimes I work 24 hour shifts.

With all the above in mind, I'm looking for a tire that can handle snow and ice rather well. I use to keep snow tires and all seasons but it's getting expensive to keep switching. Switch in fall to snow and switch again in spring back to all season. Plus, I'd appreciate having the extra room in my basement back from not having to store the extra set of tires.

So what tires are good all seasons with an emphasis on winter driving?
I put Falken Wildpeak AT4W on my 2020 2500. I love them. They are snow rated, though I rarely see snow in NW Louisiana.

Here's my opinion on these two tires, the Falken AT4W , and the Cooper AT3 XLT . You could put a set of Falken's on one day ,and switch to the Coopers the next day , and you couldn't tell the difference in performance . Probably the only thing to compare is how they perform as they got worn down . That being said I am really temped to try a set of Falkens on the next set, just to compare . In all honesty when I bought the Coopers , the only reason was they were cheaper than the Falkens ,and they had a rebate .

So far I am entirely happy with the Coopers . The OP's choice is the Cooper XLT's . I think he will be happy with them . Probably his choice was because he kept hearing Cooper or Falken , it's sure my first two choices .

Again IMO , from reading tire threads ,and again how anyone could make a choice asking on a forum is beyond me . :) Granted it can get you started somewhat in the right direction . As far as all the top choices in a 5 rib AT tire , probably couldn't go too wrong with any of them . Goodyear , Goodrich , Falken , Cooper etc .

Sitting here reading this thread , thought I would do some shopping for the Falken , and Cooper .

I shopped for a set of LT 275/70/18, my truck tire size . Load range E .

Cooper Discoverer AT3 XLT price per tire was 229.94 , ordered from Walmart , plus tax . free shipping.

Falken Wildpeak AT4W price per tire was $360  , ordered from Walmart , plus tax ,free shipping .

Both these tires have a 60,000 mile limited warranty , but at $130 per tire difference , $520 per set of four . I can't imagine why ???? Both are the same tire design , 5 rib , warranty etc etc .

The At3 4s was an outstanding true 4 season tire it has been replaced by the road & trail which is even better
I have been running Cooper 4 season all terrains for over a decade I started with the atw+4 over 10 years ago
I’ve not had any better tires
A true 4 season tire unlike an all season as characteristics on a snow tire but it can be run all summer
I have gone so far as to use only true 4 season tires on both my truck and me rav4 I find it great to have the traction of a snow tire here in upstate ny
