Honestly tinting your tails is asking for trouble. Your not legally supposed to modify anything DOT certified or it is thus not approved from DOT. Which leads me to my next point

You can and will be held reliable in an accident if you are rear ended and have tinted tail lights, insurance companies will drop you in a heart beat. In the daylight I cannot see the light being emitted from tinted tails 75% of the time.

I agree. in the past I have almost hit a few cars. especially when the clear tail fad was around and people were still using clear brake lights.

at a red light or normal stopped situation, its not a huge deal. but in a uncommon circumstance where you are stopped in the middle of the road due to traffic or an accident, thats when it gets hairy.

slightly off topic, a city police car in normal driving situations rear ended my wifes jeep gc while we were stopped at a red light. cut to the end, they are not liable. completely mind blowing.

Wow, I'd be fighting that with both guns drawn! In Canada, police are not allowed to break a law in pursuit of a criminal. Granted, it happens all the time but by having that rule in place, anything they do is reviewed with a fine tooth comb and if it's not warranted, they get in deep trouble. (Jail/Fines/Dismissal). If a vehicle refuses to move for a cop, they can push you out of the way, you'd get fined with failing to yield the ROW, but damage done to your car would be paid by the RCMP. Now, if your beeing a putz and blocking persuit, your likely not going to see your vehicle for a while.

Not to thread jack too much, but yea. That was three years ago. We got two well established laywers. Both said there are laws in place in MS that make them not liable. In pursuit or not. Due to there being no injuries and our insurance covered the jeep, it wasn't worth them to pursue it too far. We fought it for about a year for pain and suffering. My wife was 9 mnths pregnant and had bad back pains throughout the rest of the preg and labor.

I was just corrected by my wife, a case in BC similar to the discussion.. it was found that you cannot sue the RCMP as they cannot be held liable during the execution of their duties. You have to sue the minister responsible for the rcmp. RCMP do have immunity during the execution of their responsibilities.

Odd... I guess I'm allowed to be wrong once in a while.. :)
