And the dealer wonders why I don’t come back…

Today’s dealer story: needed a $pendy part for my truck so looked it up on Mopar.com National E-Store. Thought we had the right part number but before ordering, called the local dealer (who used to be OK for parts/service), gave them my VIN, and asked for the part number. They recited an incomplete part number, omitting all the “2s” in the number.

Having previously had a horrible prior sales experience with this dealership, I long ago switched all service on my truck and Jeep over to a dealer located 45 miles away, but who has a used vehicle and service presence locally. Called the parts counter at that dealership and they happily verified the number, knowing it was being ordered from Mopar.com, so the part was ordered yesterday and arrived today from a 3rd dealer about 80 miles away. Part is installed and truck back in service.

Guess which dealer will be my first choice for all future service or sales needs? I will never understand dealerships that are convinced there’s profit and long-term success in hosing over customers…

Best,
RI
In large population areas they rely on the one time hose, consequently we see some heavy advertising in major centers. Get 'em in, fleece them once, rinse and repeat!
I prefer dealing with small dealerships who tend to be more reliant on providing good service to maintain their customer base.

A local dealer near me in Charlotte NC uses a oil change special to lure you in then claims the Hemi requires a special full synthetic oil and increases the price from $59 to $195. I understand a Hemi uses 2 quarts more than the special offers but WOW!!!!

All the oil change places around here have similar pricing. The $59 get-you-in-the-door price is for a four quart, non-synthetic oil and a real cheap filter. Obviously, synthetic blend and full synthetic oils are more expensive, and of course the Hemi holds seven quarts.

Including the filter with seven quarts averages about $28 per quart. High if you are comparing it to you buying it off the shelf at a discount and changing the oil yourself. But the person supplying the labor I'm sure needs to have income to pay bills and maybe support a family.

Mobil 1 5W20 about $40.00 at Walmart for 7 quarts, FE2 Fram filter about $12.00, I have one of my 5.7 Hemis with 150K miles that is as strong today as it was as new with never a peep out of her. I suggest you find a local shop or just do it yourself. A $200.00 oil change absolutely ridicules...

Dusty,
The dealership is making the money not the mechanic doing the work. I think $28 per quart is high compared to $11 a quart for the 5 quart syn blend price to lure you in. To further explain my position; when I made the appointment at the dealership that I purchased my truck from and in the past did full synthetic oil changes for $89. They notified me of the price increase after I waited about an hour. Yes I change the oil myself most of the time, but I it was there for a recall also, so I thought why not.

Dunno just my thought but if you want to order your own parts and not keep your business local then you should be looking up your own parts not calling the dealer for help verifying the part number and wasting their time. Allot of dealers are now putting the policy in place not to give out part numbers even in estimates just for this reason. Even dealers i deal with and order parts from on a regular basis and even have a account with will not supply me with part numbers even though i always get what they quote me

Dealerships deserve the hate they get for the most part. They sure AF don't value your time, not sure why I'd be concerned about anyone valuing the dealership's time. The parts guy is getting paid if he's on the phone or sitting there with his thumb up his ass, unlike the salesmen dealing with someone not really looking to buy who only get paid when they sell a car.
