Thanks! I use a screw driver and pulled the tab and it tightened my cable up. As for the brakes I’m not gonna bother with pads etc. I’m just gonna replace everything. I ordered the PS Z36 kit for front abs back. Seem to have decent reviews so I’ll give it a shot.

Should I change the brake fluid while I’m at it? It’s a 2017 84,000 kilometres.

Knowing your region, I'm guessing 1/2 to 3/4 of your klicks are highway. In my opinion , unless the fluid is dirty, I wouldn't change the fluid.

I originally ordered the full kit front and back was getting here may 7.

Cancelled by order and ordered the front kit and rear kit separately and it’ll be here in a few days lol. Same place! Makes no sense. And it was cheaper [emoji2369]

The bottom ear rotted away and let it pop out .the friction slides failed .try caliper grease next time.replace the stainless slides each time and power wash the brakes when cool though out the winter..lookss like road salt got you..replace 40k or every two years to be safe..brakes are kinda important.

Maybe they’re important to you but I think they’re overrated lol. I mean, I live in a crappy winter area, my truck is 4 years old and did I mention I live in a crappy winter area?

In the winter I get a car wash probably once a week and in the spring summer and fall I give it thorough washings [emoji2369]. Like you mentioned I’ll just have to do preventative maintenance and add a reminder on my phone to change/inspect them more often.

Finger crossed I didn’t wreck the caliber piston [emoji1696]

So yesterday I thought my truck felt weird pulling in the driveway.... almost smashed into my wife’s vehicle [emoji2369]. Thought maybe it was just me. This morning I moved my truck out of the driveway and saw a brake pad on the ground?!? Never seen or heard that before. No indication it was bad prior to this

Yep the right rear of my 2015 did this last year. The pad had separated from the the backing plate.

Been there done that, found a pad under the truck in my driveway also. Then I found the backing plate for the emergency brake assembly was completely gone, never installed

Ok,
Call me names, crazy etc. why in the world would you wait to inspect your brakes until a pad fell out? You should be inspecting everything under your truck every oil change! 84k kilometres, you have a few oil changes under your belt by now..
Every time I get under my truck (oil change or upgrade etc) I inspect everything.. With your mileage, did you ever rotate your tires? another great time to inspect! get in the habit of inspecting your rig, it may save your life or some other person on the road!!

Honestly, I would be so embarrassed by this I would not post it for the world to see...

Well, last oil change I did October 16, 2020 at 79,224 kilometre all was fine. My truck doesn’t get driven much and I live in the salt belt. So they probably rotted out.

I’m not embarrassed about this in the slightest. You think I’m the first person to have this happen? Brakes felt totally fine and ZERO noise or vibration etc.

In the fall I had new tires installed and never really drove it to justify a tire rotation which is when I would inspect them again. My jack won’t lift my truck so I had to get another one. Now I’m all set.

You sound like an awesome dude that knows his stuff. All the best to you

Help! Am ****** stupid or what? I’m about to lose my ****. Why can’t I simply put the new pads into place? They just will not go in!!!! Front I got. The rear is ******* me off.

Edit: I had to take the steal brush to the new pad tips for just enough clearance.

It's probably corrosion on the calipers where the brake pads sit. Considering the brake pads rotted out to the point they fell off the truck I guarantee that is what is going on. I have had problem on several vehicles including my previous Chevy 2500HD. The first time I did new brake pads it took me forever and I even took the new pads back and exchanged them thinking it was the pads. Finally realized there was a layer of rust on the slide areas (under the clip on stainless slides that you snap on the calipers). Had to take a screwdriver and hammer to beat off the worst flakes and then clean it up with a file. Make sure to put a thin coating of antiseize or caliper grease between the caliper and the slides, or where the brake pad slides are to prevent them from binding up down the road.

Yup!
Happened to me a year or so ago!

I was on the highway and was forced to break harder than usual as people in front were all braking.
It was a 65MPH zone, so I was going that fast anyway.
The brake petal went to the floor, my hairs stood on end and I almost $#!+ myself!
A pump or two later it was fine, wasn't sure what to make of it.
The next day it squealed once and than stopped.
Two days later it kept squealing.

Took it apart and it turns out, the brake pad material, fell off the metal backing plate!

Unfortunately, it ruined the rotor in a day, before I could even replace them.
So I ended up replacing both rotors and pads, just to be safe.
I picked up two rear coated rotors and pads from AAP, the good ones. (Maybe $150 total after discount.)
I've replaced brakes before, but I think the good AAP pads still sux, as they squeal.
I was really annoyed, because while it was a 2014, it only had 25k or so on it.
The other side and remaining pad in the rear, had most of the material still on them. (I don't drive much, once or twice a week.) The old pads and rotors looked fine, no rust, etc.
Interestingly enough, the rotor and rim were a horror story to come off.
I'm not sure why they were stuck on there, as I have rotated the tires on a couple occasions. Had to beat the old rotor senseless, to get it off.
My guess is that maybe that rear right brake overheated drastically causing it, or excessive water and moisture got to that corner somehow.

That being said, I have to replace the rear brakes on my wife's Rogue this weekend, so I bought PowerStop rotors and brakes for her. Update: The Nissan Rogue install was pretty painless, no issues.

Heck, as long as you have to take the calipers off to do the brake job

It does not take much to use a small power tool with a wire brush to clean up the calipers, front & back

Then you can paint them purdy pink or red or ...., with Hi Temp Paint

Lol. I had enough fun just getting the brakes done [emoji23]. And I only got driver side done because rotors were seized on. So far on driver side all the pads were there which is weird because that’s where the pad was on the driveway [emoji2369]. Unless it’s a random brake pad on my driveway? Delivery persons ? I’ll do the passenger side in a few days (weather) and if it’s not off the passenger side it’s a real mystery.

Brakes are done…. All rotors seized on which is fun! I wonder if they put anti seize at factory [emoji2369].

Anyways, after inspecting the pads etc all looked good except for one pad that separated from the backing plate. All the brakes had some life left in them and the rotors looked decent from what I could tell. It was probably time coming up anyways so good timing I guess.

I’m gonna take it in now for a brake fluid change and hopefully be good for a few years [emoji106][emoji106].

Now you just gotta hose em off after driving in the salt during the winter....I live in upstate NY, they use a ton of salt/ice melter/sand/brine all over the place up here. Always running it through the car wash....
