Custom AlphaRex Teaser time:

Started as this:

Teaser photos (not finished yet)

4df93dd97232182e8cc3e5e210a50973.jpgf93df68956410bd09ee66dbaeb3198f5.jpg8a4ca135c022d181ef0d18d34e99fd28.jpg

Yes, these are the original “G1” AlphaRex lights. Gloss black with chrome shrouds, amber bottom DRL with White upper DRL.

Difficulty Level: 10/10

Custom everything.

Upper + Lower DRL Lenses + Corner Markers are all smoked with a Hex pattern. Doesn’t effect light output really at all. You can see the pattern up close, it’s really unique.

Every single item needed custom fabricated mounts, lots and lots of trial and error to make these perfect.

Yes that’s quad D2S projectors, all 4 will be on for low beams, with all 4 shields dropping for high beams. RGB LED’s everywhere including demon eyes in all 4 projectors.

Definitely will be a one of a kind set like no other, and I doubt anyone will attempt such a build in the future, which was my goal. I wanted a set of lights NOBODY will also have, which is almost impossible with all the OEM options, as everything has been done to death with them.

Should be fully assembled and sealed by this weekend and then I’ll upload install pics and videos. Plus hundreds of pictures of the build and all the trial and errors.

Just to clarify, the upper and lower DRL lenses were the original “white” lenses and the corner reflectors were originally amber.

Not true, even setting to led fogs in alfa, I still had to use the resistors for both lights to work. Without the resistors, only one light was full bright, the drivers side was way dim(and yes the connections were checked). Hooked the resistors back up, and both lights worked properly. These were morimoto verticals BTW.

I purchased LEDs for my Fog lights they would not come on without changing the BCM to use LED on the fogs, and the light out message went away as well. No resistors, no PWM module no flicker no issue. I am loving that AlfaODB

Right there with you...

I actually put one Sylvania LED bulb in left one halogen in before I changed settings... LED came on for a little bit then went out the halogen stayed on... Made the changes through AlfaODB, the halogen went out the LED came on. No Flicker nothing... Love that software.

I have a set of the AlphaRex Pro G2 headlamps coming who has had them installed for a while (G1 or 2), who has LED & or HID for bulbs in them. Have they stood up? With LED do your dust caps still fit? Has anyone tried The Retrofit Source Extension dust caps, how are they?

Anyone have any issues with them??? yellowing, melting exc. Headlight Revolution doesn't recommend them but I have a feeling they are in bed with Morimoto/RetroFit Source.

Are you saying that Headlight Revolution has explicitly stated they don't recommend them?

I use innovited 5000k HIDs in the lows, Hikari Ultra LEDs in the highs. There is plenty of room inside and you shouldn't need any dust cap extensions.

I've had my g1s for about 9 months. Ran them about 3 months before opening them up and modifying them. I've kept the stock low beam projector for now. No yellowing of the lense no flaking off of the lense. I've run the Hikaris ultra led's and katana led's and now running the 35w innovative hid's. All 3 fit under the caps and inside the housing. I had ordered some of the dust cap extensions just incase when I was doing my retrofit and they didn't fit tight enough to even considering to use.

Mine are doing fine since April. Lenses still clear. Housings aren’t melting from sun bouncing off of projectors. Plenty of room for LEDs behind the dust caps.
As far as headlight revolution not recommending them, I don’t recommend buying simple HID kits from anywhere that sells them for 7 times what they should cost (like...headlight revolution).

Same here....mine have been in use for 4 months or so. No melting, no yellowing, no cracking, no anything. And that is coming from someone who opened them and modded them as their first ever headlight modification.

I have Katana LEDs for lows and Hikari (non-Ultra) for high beams and everything clears just fine.

Im with @Jimmy07 HR, etc are really good at pushing people to much more expensive solutions like Morimotos (the Facebook fanbois are entertaining, for sure) but for less than 1/4th the cost the Modifystreets work well, dont melt, look just about as good, etc.

I'm new to the upgrading lights and need a little help. I upgraded my quad housings to the alpharex projectors. I am still running the halogen bulbs so they are not the problem. I've read through a lot of this thread and the problems with the led turn signals causing bulb out messages etc. Of course I'm having the same issues. The question I guess I have is, is alphaobd the best solution for this or is there another solution.

99% of the time, yes. I think I've seen maybe 1 maybe 2 people that it didn't fix the issue. But it could of been user error. Other than adding a resistor to the turn and park feed on both headlights, alphaobd is in my opinion, along with others the best solution for this.

If you have the means, AlfaOBD is the best solution.

You could use resistors, CAN adapters, etc but would probably pay as much for those parts (which only really mask the issue) as you would an AlfaOBD setup.

Go into the Alfa app, enable LED turns, etc and you're done.

Ok, after everything I've read this is what I thought was best but just wanted to make sure. As far as alphaobd, do you have to use the obdlink mx, or will other readers work with it.

Others will work, I used a 12.00 BAFX one from Amazon for a while. But once you get into connecting to things like the door, memory or RF hub modules, you'll need a wiring adapter for the cheap BAFX, or an adapter like the OBD MX that can change pin assignments on the fly.

If you are just sticking to BCM stuff, I never had an issue using the cheaper adapter

I would spend the money on the mx. You may find yourself doing more with alphaobd than you plan. I bought it pretty much for the same thing. I wanted to add switchbacks to my stock quad lights. Ended up changing my tpms thresholds, changing my tire size, switching settings for led's, hid's, programming oem remote start, programming new key fobs, programming mileage and hours on a premium cluster upgrade, I'm sure I'm forgetting some things.

Ok thanks for the quick reply. I really only need it for the lights for now anyways, so that's why I was asking if I really needed the $80 one when a $15 would do what I needed

Headlight revolution did not flat out say don't use AlphaRex but they did say they have not tested them due to low quality of AlphaRex headlamps.

My "low quality" Alpha Rex headlamps do not have any melt marks in them .....

Yeah I got my G2 set this week and they look like they are pretty dam well built to me. hoping to get them installed this weekend. Still looking at LED bulbs. I would like to get a set of Dual color Yellow/White but right now have not found a set that will say yes they start with white by default, that have good reviews.

You mean for low and/or high beams?

I stuck with standard for those. Katana LED for lows, Hikari (non-Ultra) for high beams.

Modified the my G1 lights to work like G2 (upper and lower strips are DRLs, lower is switchback and sequential for turn signal) lights since the G2 was not available in chrome at the time.

Maybe their sealant job could have used some improvement, but other than that they seemed built pretty well. There isnt really much to headlights, anyway.

I live in the northern US so yellow are actually really great in a snow storm. white bounces back at you
