Apple or Google maps will not talk when on Phone

When connected via Apple CarPlay and either using Apple Maps or Google maps for navigation I get no vocal turn by turn instructions when on a phone call. Is this normal? If not what do I need to change?

Yes it's normal and non-changable. It's the phone, not carplay.

I get mine to work but I have to fumble around, re-start the directions, close the app, open the app and make sure the phone is plugged in prior to starting the directions. It's a pain and I don't know what the real process is because I don't use it enough to know what made it start working!

I had the same issue, i got the phone to start talking, then turned up the volume on the stereo.
the volume was set really really low.

What he said. Calls are supposed to override nav voice but sometimes the volume just needs to be turned up to hear nav. That said, we used MAPS with CarPlay all over the country this summer and it worked like a champ

I noticed that when I picked up my truck and had a 1200 mile drive home. I didn't know it would do that and missed some directions before I realized what it was doing. Does this happen when you have the navigation 8.4?

Similar problem. I get no audio ques when charging phone using USB located in console. When plugged into port on dashboard all is good.

The USB port on the left side inside the center console lid is the media port for the radio, that is why you don't hear audio from the phone as it wants to play them via USB input on the radio.
Do yourself a favor, buy a QC that plugs into a vehicle power point and charge the phone with that. The built-in USB ports in the vehicle are almost worthless for charging most phones.
