Auto Lock on Exit

One of my vehicles locks on exit when I have the keys, However my 2013 Ram 1500 does not. This has caused me on occasion to forget to lock my Ram and thieves in the night have taken advantage of this. Is there any way to install an auto lock on my 4th gen Ram? Is it an option in AlphaOBD? I've searched through the settings and it's not an option through my radio.

I cant help you with the alphaOBD as I dont have any experience with it. I also never had a vehicle that auto locks upon exiting but I just make it a habit of locking it on my way out. I have heard of the proximity lock and unlock on the 5th gens. I'm not sure if it was available on the 4th gen trucks. If it was available then it may be possible to convert your truck to it. I'm sure you'll get some knowledgeable feedback. I guess on the bright side, by you not locking the doors they didnt have to damage anything while stealing your stuff

My truck does lock automatically once the doors are closed, it is a 2015. Usually before i get out of the garage, all the locks activate, i do like that system, came factory like that.

You're good. It prompted me to look at my build sheet and I just discovered that I have the same as you. So maybe I'm overlooking it in my settings.

My 2021 2500 does not autolock on exit as far as I know. Will have to play around in the settings and see if there is a toggle, but I also never forget to lock a vehicle so never gave it much thought. Be interested to see if it has that feature though.

Cannot help on autolock. They have that function when say U R driving, never seen on exit. Guess BOIRD lived sheltered life. Definitely not sure on 5th Gens. Maybe they put it into high end trucks, definitely not on my lowly Bighorn

True enough about always and never. Biggest advantage I have is that the rural area where I live, leaving something unlocked would rarely result in anything going missing. Now if you do that in the big city near me, whole different ball of string.

I went outside to check my truck for the auto lock feature. It does work, but perhaps it is the way it works that I have been using. I found that i normally get it to work when i am outside cleaning the truck and not starting it. i use the passenger door to unlock the doors to access tailgate. This is when i think it is activated, i do not open doors except for the tailgate. I then hear the doors lock shortly afterwards. i took this note below out of the owners manual.

• If the vehicle is unlocked by the Passive Entry Door Handle, and no door goes ajar within 60 seconds, the vehicle will re-lock and if equipped will arm the security alarm

I rented a Buick with the autolock feature and when I stopped to get my heavy coat from the trunk and had the engine running with the transmission in park, the doors autolocked. There was an 800 number etched on the glass that one could call and phone for a free service vehicle to arrive to open the doors. It was 20 degrees out and I had to walk a mile to the nearest pay phone at a small convenience store. Needless to say I never rented a Buick again.

Autolock is one of the dumbest things to have on a vehicle that is not moving. Only thing worse is having ABS brakes when driving off the pavement.

I'm not sure if mine operate the same because it's a 5th gen, but:

If I use the Unlock button on the FOB and then not approach the vehicle, or walk away without opening the door, in about 20 seconds the driver's door will auto lock.

Not true.

I purchased a new 2014 Impala 2LTZ. When exiting the vehicle, it will auto lock (unless an override button is pressed each time).

The car does not have an aftermarket alarm installed.

It is equipped with the push-button start, and an intelligent key fob.
