RDS sells a install kit that uses a small roll-over check valve to keep fuel from overfilling the main tank. There is no need according to RDS to add any vent lines back to the main tank.

I agree there is no need to add additional venting to the OEM tank. I cut the OEM vent line, put in a tee and vented the Aux tank's vent line to the tee. Now any fumes or vapors get routed into the OEM vent system.

I don't see hold down bolts in one picture, I presume that is before you finished. I would have a problem with the tank moving and cutting the fitting or hose off.
I can see problems with over filling the main tank, would yo not have gas blocking/ filling up the vent?
years ago I had a 100 gallon tank in the back or my 1975 3/4 ton, with a electric selector value.
But we did not have computers trying to run things then.
Would have been way easer to weld another fitting before you put gas in it, LOL.
I would wonder if that plastic box liner will stand up? I found out , they mess up the factory paint in a box.

08CF62C6-7A92-421B-BE32-ED79A54C42AD.png I have 3 mounting bolts, 1 per tab. The ratchet strap shouldn't be needed but it can't hurt.
True enough about the ****.
The trucks bed has the OEM spray on bedliner, but I already had the plastic bed liner in my back yard from my 2010 Dually that I no longer had. Same exact liner, even had matching holes near tailgate to secure it. I did have to cut holes for the LED bed lights. A slide in liner will better stand up to dropping of heavy items than a spray on liner. Best of both worlds.

Truck bed and liner had matching holes for plastic rivet!!!

I as just wondering if the liner will stand the weight of a full tank on it with out crushing the ribs?
You would have a bit more room for the fittings , if you had got a shut off value with a male end on it , than you don't need the coupler, harder to find , but they make them. My truck has the spray in liner, few years ago I had a '95 and put in a liner, and the liner rubbed all the paint off the floor

I read one of the reviews state it’s illegal to use gravity feed from the aux tank. Is this true? I imagine the danger of fuel leaking from the feed line from the aux tank to the main tank is the reason...safety. Using a transfer pump wouldn’t be difficult to install, or would it?
Transfer pumps are easy to find , and not that expensive. I used one for years on my '05 duramax when towing. It gave me a total of 110gal on the road. On it I used a top mounted pump. I now have 2019 Limited with the small tank, so will be mounting a custom built tank from KSH Fuel Products. With my cover and fifth wheel setup I can only add about 25gal, but hey thats another 250 miles when towing.

Commercial use has different regulations than personal private use. I'm not a lawyer so I can't speak to the legal ramifications. I have never seen the regulation prohibiting gravity feed to the OEM tank.
Some states have laws against it for gas, but not for diesel

If you are unsure of the laws in ur state, Take a trip down to your local DMV/ Highway Patrol office. Unless of course if you live in california, then I suggest you take some lube with you.

Glad it is working out for you OP!!

Sounds like we had similar setups. I had an ‘06 Duramax and used it for 5th wheel towing. The Transfer Flow aux tank I installed worked great with the digital transfer panel and pump....and it was very safe. That’s part of the reason I’m surprised people still use gravity feed systems...aux tank kits with a switch and pump are easy to find and eliminates any need to stop, get out, turn a valve and then remember to shut off the valve later. The switch/pump kits are easily controlled from the comfort of your cab.

An issue with the aux tanks is the extra weight. Full, you are adding another 325-500 pounds (depending on tank size), thereby getting closer to your max cargo limit...a consideration to those close to their tow limits.

Yeah, except no one makes one for a gas set up, all diesel. Because the government thinks they need to regulate the masses into safety because a couple people are morons.

Well, here's a final update.
I as just wondering if the liner will stand the weight of a full tank on it with out crushing the ribs?
If my math is correct, I figure the weight of a full tank of gas plus the weight of the tank itself is about 500 lbs. Tank dimensions are 56" x 13". Ribs and valleys of liner are roughly 1/2" each. Pressure of tank on liner is about 5 1/2 lbs/sq. in. I doubt that is anything to worry about. I certainly won't.

I took the advice and used a pipe thread compound that is impervious to gasoline and it's also aviation approved for those times when I feel like getting some air in my 7500/8000 lb. truck!

I took my tank to a radiator repair shop and had them weld an extra **** where I wanted it. I didn't know if the "diamond" would interfere with the placement of the **** so I marked two locations. They were confused so they welded 2 bungs where marked. No harm, no foul!

All is well, no leaks. Works like a charm. Doesn't overfill the OEM tank. Doesn't overflow the OEM fill tube. It simple works.

I did add another ground strap from a tank mounting bolt to the factory ground bolt. Likely not needed as the 3 mounting bolts already provide a ground. But it can't hurt. Pipe dope.jpg IMG_2891.jpg

Yep, for example:
I know of a case where an F350 Ford, pulling a triple axle toy hauler were overloaded and too fast, jackknifed on a downhill, rolled over, total loss, serious injuries to all. The insurance company declared they were overloaded and walked away. Poor souls lost it all, were sued, were cited, hospital bills, etc - a sad story.

Link?

This is a forum, lots of people just say things to match their point, much like politicians, conjecture is a *****, but proof is unvreakable

Or people are busy. No one on here knows you from Adam, nor does anyone owe you anything. You made a pretty large claim and all they asked was for a link to read the full story.

I asked YOU a legitimate question. If you not replying to my question qualifies for "nor does anyone owe you anything" you have a different view of integrity than I.

I don't lie and there is no link. I said I know of a case, not a report. It happened in Southern California on Interstate 8, on the downgrade into Imperial Valley, to people my son knows. If you or warwagonxj think it's a lie, so be it, your problem not mine. Not sure why I'm even explaining as this has the importance of a pile of dog crap.

Ok, well I guess I can explain it to you/answer your question, which I’ve already done.

You made a claim of something really bad happening due to someone not following rules/guidance from manufacture.

Someone asked you for a link, you said “Link? Why need a link?”

Well maybe they wanted to read more about the specifics of the situation. You could have simply answered their post with, “I don’t have a link, it’s a personal story that happened to someone I/my son knows”

So yeah it becomes a credibility issue when you answer that way. Most of us come here to learn, and when someone makes a statement to the level you do, we want to learn more.

Sorry if you feel it’s an attack on your integrity, but agains no one here knows you from Adam, and I personally don’t just “take someone at their word” on the internet. That is the problem with this country to be perfectly honest, they see something on the internet and “ITS THE TRUTH!”
