Good day,
I’m looking into installing a OEM mopar backup camera on my 2011 Ram 1500. It never came with one and I’m using an aftermarket license plate cheapo. Picture was great when I first installed roughly 3 years ago, now she hazy and doesn’t show any details in the monitor that came with the camera. I want to install the camera right to my radio. Is this an option if my truck didn’t come with a camera? Also, is there a harness that plugs into the radio or would there be some cutting and splicing of wires?
Any assistance is greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Lyle.

Infotainment.com has a backup camera kit for the 2009-2012 RAM trucks. The kit utilizes the backup camera located in a new tailgate handle with everything needed in the kit to perform the installation and program it to make it work.

There are other options but this is the one I have first hand experience with.

If you can get the back up camera that fits inside of the tailgate handle
Try to get the unit that has the backup guidance lines

Do not get the harness that displays what the camera sees that is viewed through the rear view mirror, you will dislike it

when you turn the wheels, the lines show where the truck will be going to

this video shows the installation of the camera

the Infotainment installation follows right behind the video above

I see why this kit is easier to install, you don't have to do anything under the hood
Myself i would have used heat shrink on the wires that he spliced by the radio

May i suggest the you purchase a set of Plastic Trim tools, even the ones from Harbor Freight will work
This tool makes it easier to remove the bezel surrounding the radio & it can't scratch the plastic, every time i see someone using their fingers to jerk that bezel off i cringe .
Those same trim tools also work good on the plastic christmas tree fasteners on the underside of the hood & for the cover above the radiator

I have a 2017 Ram 1500 with the U Connect 3. I bought the tailgate latch camera with the cable that plugs into the cable coming from the cab. Checking the plug that is plugged into the radio I'm missing radio C1 connector 31,32,33. Also in the safety features in the radio there is no mention of the back up camera. I'm pretty sure I need the C1 cable and the software. Another question can a backup camera be installed on a U Connect 3 ?

I’ll go with the one @Fast69Mopar suggested as it’s listed for my truck year 09-12. I also use the trim tool as it gets the job done without breaking tabs.
Thanks everyone for the info and suggestions. Very much appreciated!

Cool man. I've used this kit a few times this year already and it has performed flawlessly. No issues whatsoever.

Update on the outcome of this install? I have a 2011 3500 with the RBZ430 radio. I installed the U-connect phone and the backup camera kits. Neither worked. I took it to the dealership and they said there was something wrong with the radio. So, I had them replace the radio with a rebuilt. The U-connect works. The back camera worked for a day then quit. I took it back. they said they found a loose wire connections and plugged it in. It worked again for a day. I took all the wire connections loose and plugged them back in. Again, it worked for a day. Now, back at the dealership again.

BTW: dealership has been great through this.
