Given current CRAZY high used vehicle market, is now the best time to trade for a new Ram? I’ve got a 17 Limited crew 1500 and thinking about moving back to a 2500. KBB lists my trade for about $6000 more than I paid for that truck a year ago. However, it looks as though new prices haven’t followed this trend.

Only if you can find a good deal somewhere but even still you would probably have to sell your truck to Carvana, Vroom, Autonation, etc. I doubt there are many dealers left that are giving BOTH great trade ins and good deals at the same time.

I agree with tidefan, you might have a hard time finding a dealer that will give you the trade-in value and new truck pricing to make it worth doing. Be sure to shop around, and if it makes financial sense then do it.

If you need a 2500, then you should do your best to maximize value of current truck, then try and negotiate your best deal on a new vehicle. You could possibly do better on a less provisioned truck and add options in your own. Whatever you do, good luck.

FWIW...I started online negotiations in Nov of '20...dealers weren't too accommodating. I pinged them a couple times in Dec, a again in Jan of '21...haggling over a bumper step! I then I went silent. Feb I got pinged by the dealer...they agreed to add the step, and they threw in spray in bed liner. I believe after Christmas, and before income tax season things get slow for them.

Great thing about currently owning a working p/u is that you don't 'need' to buy one. They will get back to you when they 'need' that sale...be it a slow month or trying to raise the count so they can reap a bonus from the mfg.

You’re screwed if you want a new one. The waiting line on orders, at least at my local dealer, is almost a year. It’s insane. And since they can’t build everything for supplier issues, now is the absolute worst time.
