You know not every newer Ram has MDS. My buddy's 2015 BigHorn does not have it so may be your Rebel one either. To be 100% sure check the 8th digit of the vin. If it is D then no MDS. If it is 2 then your truck has MDS. My 2004 had hemi tick, the lifter were making noise at 35K, my 2018 is super quiet.
HERE SHE IS IDLING BOYS (cold start)! Of course the quality is low because he sent the vid through sms. Let me know your thoughts.
@Plankton is this sound pretty typical in your Rebel? From what I've seen on youtube the exhaust and lifter tick is much more pronounced. I would like to think I'm only hearing noisy injectors.
While the manifold has been a issue in the past its been somewhat remedied. The bigger issue thats been around for years and is known as the HEMI Tick is much worse. It involves the lifters. I myself just had the Tick. According to my mechanic he's only ever seen it on those with over 200k miles on it. Its a easy fix with new cam and non mds lifters prior to the issue arising. The ticking is usually broken manifold bolts. That can be remedied by machining the stock manifold or replacing them with headers.
I have a 2016 hemi CC and really like it!
honestly, Taco’s are great trucks too. Especially the gen before the current one. They are just a bit small for my needs.
Edit: redline oil is great for slowing down the tick as well
Fwiw, shooting the video down by the front wheel wells will give clearer audio of the lifters. Up top they tend to get drowned out by the fan and pulleys. I don't hear anything that isn't normal in that video though. Lots of folks with more knowledge than me here, so keep that in mind too. I'm fairly new to Rams/Hemi's.

Just for the hell of it I went out and recorded mine starting up, it's been sitting in the garage since Friday it's a detached garage and not heated so it's all ambient temperature, 30's at night and low 40's during the day for the last few days.
Funny thing is when I listen to the video everything sounds way louder than it seemed to me in person. I know part of that is the side exit exhaust blasts right into the wall and I'm inside the garage so everything is amplified but if I backed the truck out of the garage first then it wouldn't be a cold start.
Anyway here it is for your amusement:

I tend to agree, though I will always like the Tacoma my thoughts of it have changed a bit the past few days. For one I'm 6'3 and I had to come to the realization that taking the wife and two kids (one) in a booster seat on 8hr road trips is probably not going to be nearly enjoyable.., at all.
BTW to all, paper work will be signed today or tomorrow and I plan to go through with the deal. Looks like I'll be around here for on the forums for a while![]()
What puzzles ME is why people buy a few yr old truck with 116K then wonder abt the tick and manifold bolts? They should KNOW that is all going to haqve to be addressed with those miles. Hell, the new ones with the rebates and negotiation aren't that much more...get some boxing gloves and go beat the hell out of the dealer! Your best chance to get a dealer to work with you is BEFORE you sign and take delivery....NOT after.
That's great to hear, I'm actually researching shorty headers right now. I'm planning to run shorties so I can just leave the cats alone instead of altering the factory emissions systems. Figured I go ahead and knock that out of the way to avoid having to drill out a broken bolt in the future.I own a 2012 outdoorsman with 255500km, I've done the manifold studs 3 times and a water pump.
I've owned it since new, never had any engine troubles at all. Tows our 5500lbs family camper all over alberta for the past 8 years religiously.
I run full synthetics front to back, diffs included.

Some people can turn their own wrenches and don't have to rely on a dealer warranty. Because of this, 100k miles is not a big deal to some of us. That doesn't mean I'm going neglectfully ignore common issues that have been reported from 2k miles all the way to 250k miles.
This thread does not concern manifold bolts. You may want to go back and actually read the thread. Cam and lifter failure is the concern here. And I would be researching and gathering information on this issue rather the truck had 10miles or 200k miles on it. Anyone mechanically inclined, I would assume/think would do the same.
I have no clue what you're talking about in regards to working with the dealer before taking delivery, you've lost me there. The truck needs nothing and I talked the price down from 27 to 25.5k if that's what you mean? No delivery has been taken yet. I made a deposit. Again you may want to actually read the thread.
