2019 5.7 1500 just turned 100k miles, power steering failed, getting code C2217.
Is this a common issue ?? Do I need to trouble shoot more or just replace the rack ??
Checked for recall but no luck.

I have a 2015 Ram 1500 w/ EPS.
Have had to replace ball joints, and recently the RH axle. Monday I took the truck in again for an intermittent clicking when turning left or right that the shop couldnt replicate. Took it back home after the shop couldn't figure it out and said it would be safe to drive the next day.

Started the truck yesterday morning and had no power steering!! Fast forward to this morning I tried again and had steering again. Turned off the truck and restarted it... NO STEERING! Called my local dealership Anderson Motors and they want me to bring it in to replace the rack and pinion. An almost $3000 piece... on A 6 YEAR OLD TRUCK?! Absolutely ridiculous this is happening. I told them if I bring the truck in they can keep it. The brakes will need to be replaced soon. The LH axle will likely need to be replaced too. I've been told the tie rods will need to be replaced also. Someone made a joke about the front ends falling out of Dodges and I laughed... but now I can agree!
Where is the TSB's? Recalls?
I suspect more and more of these electronic problems will be popping up.

Did you hit anything or did it just go out. I had a similar issue at 42k miles on my 19 after hitting a pothole. Your code is for an internal failure of the module, which is the same code I had, I believe. If you can get the rack off and examine the control module board on the rack, you may be able to salvage it if there are bad solder joints, otherwise you're looking at a rack replacement.

I get it, you're upset, as was I. But digging up every power steering post and posting the same thing isn't going to help. As I've said in previous posts. You can fix this for less than $1k if you do some research, find a shop willing to install parts you bring and don't charge you 5 hours labor for a 1 hour job. It really is a 1 hour job, 2 if you take your time. Hell, search the junkyards for replacement units.

Nope, 100k highway miles. Bought a used rack out of a wrecked 16 and have power steering again :) Like u said its a hour job. Cross reference showed my 19 classic not being compatible with 18 or older but works just fine, only difference I found is the 16 does not store the vin like the 19 does.
