Cabin Air Filter ?

2016 Ram 1500 5.7 . Was going to replace my Cabinet Air Filter, and, after opening the access door, I saw it didn’t have one. I’ve always depended on my dealer to check it when I took it in for service and they have never said anything about it. I just took for granted it had one. Did some models come without one ?

They started including the door in 2016 I believe. Before that it was a sealed enclosure and required modifications to add the door.

Yes. It will prolong the life of HVAC components. I use a washable K&N cabin air filter

Absolutely. I recommend the Dorman kit from RockAuto with the Bosch filter. You'll need a sharp utility knife, gloves and patience.

It is also a great time to clean/rinse off your blower fan while it's out and I also sprayed some coil foam cleaner on the evaporator core. Good luck!

As mentioned above, Ram started implementing the cabin air filter starting somewhere in the middle of the 2016 model year. First with just the door then finally adding the filter near the end of the model year production.

Unsure (I don't think so?) but they do make sprays for the interior vents if you are trying to get rid of an unpleasant damp smell.

i run my ozone machine inside for about an hour maybe once every 3 months. I wish i could run the fan while using it without running the truck. So, i used a 3" flexible aluminum tube and attach it to the ozone and put the other end into one of the vents hoping the machine fan will blow enough into the duct work.

It seems to work OK

No. You will have to remove the blower fan to cutout the opening for the filter. I think there are 3 torx screws and then one electrical connector to disconnect the blower. I carefully rinsed it off with the garden hose once I had it out of the truck.

You can't get to the evaporator core. I used a product called Kool-it off Amazon that has a flexible sprayer hose attachment. Their directions say to push the hose up through the drain tube but I pushed it in through the opening in the HVAC box once I had the blower fan removed. I then attached the hose to another can of coil cleaner I got from Home Depot and did it again. Unbelievable how dirty our HVAC is without that filter!!

Thanks guys. The cleaning is for later. I’m on vacation right now, but, I bought a Carquest Premium filter, and, installed it. Mine already had the door.
