Hey everyone. Im looking around at performance stuff for the truck, Ram 2500, 5.9 V8. On other forums I've seen people run either a 14x3 round style air filter or a CAI. What are the pros of each? Really, i just want to know which one would be better than the other.

Thanks errybody!

Everyone on here will probably say that CAI's dont do much at all, but i really like mine. A good one is spendy but i think theyre worth it, they look much better and they have some performance benefits even if the benefits arent much. the air filter would be much much cheaper though. all depends on your preference really!

Well CAI's look cool and sound cool when you hit the gas. Do they help the trucks performance? Maybe a little but nothing huge. Its more of a eye candy thing than anything else. I have a spectre and I like mine.

Cool. Thanks everyone. What do you think about those ebay ones? Talked to a guy who bought one and liked it a lot.

If you are going to **** your money away look at the AFE stage 2 (what I have) or the Volant system about the only two worth getting.

The throat is correct. The overall height of mine is about 2.75 as well. Mine is a 10" and it bearly fits. I have to remove the stud first to get it out.

I dont think that one will work for you. The drop base will hit the throttle linkage. I think you need a flat base or a 1/2" drop base.

This is what I have in mine...

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/mrg-9798/overview/

Pepped the engine up a little bit and interestingly enough my engine pings a lot less (???). I didn't knock out the slot for the breather hose. Instead, I replaced it with a push-in K&N open element breather.

Sounds awesome under moderate-heavy throttle. ;)

EDIT: The cleaner is 10x2 and is a bit snug. There is a conduit that runs along the firewall that would make anything larger not fit. Also, I had to special order a custom "s" bolt since the hole for the bolt on the throttle body is not in the center. Overall, definitely worth it. :)

EDIT 2: This is where I got my "s" bolt...
