So I'm in the market of buying a CAI. I want to buy an efficient but yet aggressive one. What are yall running? And how does it sound and do yall notice any hp gains? I'm also running flow master 40. Guess if any of yall are running the 40 and also have a CAI how does it sound and perform? New to actually buying and building my truck up. Had an 07 1500 5.7 but was already mod'd out. Better to do it yourself rather then having a truck setup to someones desire. Thanks guys

I had a K&N cai and loved it with my flowmaster 40. It sounded really good in the cab. You get great off the line response with it.
But I switched to a vararam cai because it gave a little better hp and mpg. But it doesn't sound nearly ass cool and you don't feel the big jump till 20mph

Overall I think the vararam would be better, plus it looks really cool.
but I had to change my flowmaster 40 to a magnaflow since it couldn't keep up with the air coming in

So if I don't plan on swapping my flowmaster would K&N be the route to go?

I did the 63 one. I picked it up from o'reilys. I don't know much about the other series.

I wouldn't recommend the K&N because it's more like a warm air intake. It's open so it'll get dirty faster and it'll suck all that hot engine air in. It'll sound different but perform worse.

I have a S&B. It's supposed to be the best CAI next to the Vararam. It's a closed box system with a scoop that catches cold air from outside of the truck. It also doesn't get dirty near as fast!

A cai on its own won't make much of a noticeable difference. It's a supporting mod, that means that with a tune and exhaust they'll all work better!

I believe mine has made a difference in mpg and power. It also made my exhaust sound better! More air in, more air out.

Do not buy an open filter though, make sure it's a closed box!

I picked up a S&B. Haven't had a chance to put it on yet though because it's been so damn cold here.

I went with the K&N and love it. Better throttle response, pulls harder and sounds amazing. But it highly debated filtering and hot air debate gives it a bad name. I do replace the filter once a year, I do not clean and wash it.

Thanks guys. I'm gonna do a little more research on all my options. Not gonna pull the trigger on one just yet.

^^X2. S&B is soooo much better than that tooth rattling, conversation killing open top K&N junk.

I just got a S&B today from moes. I ordered it over the weekend and found it by the door today. I probably wont be installing it until next week along with an 18 inch mufflex muffler.

Vararam, on mine and love it. Adds symmetry to the engine bay... I hate tube intakes bc they always look like a tube on one side of the intake. S&B is next best but vararam still makes the most power. Cleaning kit for the vararam is only $12.

The stock air box will flow all the clean air my 5.7L will ever need! BUT! If I was shopping for a CAI? I would invest in a S&B!
