I was just wondering if anyone knew of a good CAI that is designed to help prevent hydrolocking. I live in Ohio and don't have garage access so my truck is always outside in the elements. I've seem some CAI that are in a box similar to the stock air filter. Just don't know if it would even be worth getting an intake if I would be prone to hydrolock. I'm still new to doing performance mods so be easy on me lol

You could have a filter with no box and you wouldn't hydro lock. Anyway s&b and vararam are what most people here would recommend

Hydrolocking with a CAI? Do you plan on driving it through a river?

I didn't buy a CAI. I read many times that the oem airbox mod with a good aftermarket air filter (i.e. Green Performance filter) work just as good to the point you couldn't tell the difference, so that's what I did.

I've just seen people online say that rain and snow and stuff can cause hydrolock. Sorry, I've never had a CAI and didn't know how much water would cause thus or if my truck having snow on the hood outside would.

I agree, Unfortunately I bought mine on impulse and than read on a performance page that OE was just as good. But the AM ones do look better :happy107:

a snorkel would be best to prevent hydolock if traversing streams or deep puddles.

i live in Washington in one of the rainiest places on the planet it seems and had a ram with a k&n intake that was open and had no issues. so you don't need to worry about hydrolocking

Hydrolocking is an issue if you offroad and take the vehicle through deep mud/water OR if you like driving through flooded streets or really deep puddles. Normal driving won't cause hydrolocking on any CAI, either boxed or open element type. Snow has only been a problem on the Vararam where it would get packed in on the front half of the filter and that's the only reason those of us in winter climates recommend taking out the Vararam in the winter.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm not as paranoid about getting a CAI now.
