What year is yours? Have you owned it since new and do you run synthetic oil?
Its in the sig, 2009 5.7 RWD. I haven't, but family owned since new. Always synthetic, usually Mobil 1. I have had a water pump bearing failure though, and replaced the water pump and fan clutch assembly.

2012 Tradesman 4x4, 5.7L with 165k mi here. No problems, but sure wouldn't mind replacing the cam/lifters as a preventative measure. Could do this myself, but anyone know what the dealer charges to do this?

I cant say, but too much! I'd research good, local shops, but expect to pay North of 1k i would imagine...

But if she's running strong and is quiet....if it ain't broke....

I think I'd just keep right on truckin and not worry about it till it gives you a reason to.

Our 2014 1500 Laramie had 87K on it when we traded it in. No issues other than the occasional tick on startup. Oil changes at the dealer every 7500 miles. Great truck. Our 2018 has 45K on it. It used to make noise on startup if you did a short trip and restarted about an hour later. That has not happened since I started using Lubeguard. It took about 500 miles or so but has been quite every since. I think I will switch to the RP larger filter if it will fit. It has a factory extended Max Care 7/100K warranty so not really going to worry about it and we will probably trade it in on another slightly used RAM right before the warranty runs out. We may even go back to a 2500 at that point.

The biggest one is the 20-500 its taller, the 20-820 is shorter.

Looks like you have a 5th gen; I asked this in the syn thread but got no response there, are you running the RP 20-820 in a 5th gen (no fit issues)?

Wow, for that much, I would just get a reman. engine installed...at least that would make the most sense to me, already having 158K miles on the engine.

There is a youtube video out there where a guy shows th invoice. It was like 50/50 parts to labor. That guy paid the dealer under the hopes that FCA will make good on this issue someday. You can easily find someone else to do it cheaper.

BTW, I have an 09 that is about to roll 300,000 miles so it really is a either/or when it comes to a reman engine vs repair. At least with your engine you know what you got.

Same here, my 09 is in unbelievable condition inside and out. I still have people ask me if it's a new truck, lol! Rear diff. has been rebuilt, trans. has been rebuilt. When the engine goes, it too will be replaced/rebuilt.

I’m nearing 80k miles on my 2014 Ram Hemi and the cam/lifter failures I have read about concern me going forward.

Please list your mileage currently, failure mileage if you had it and mfg year. I’m hoping to read some no issues responses over 100k miles!

Is this blown out of proportion about the cam/lifter failures?
2011 Laramie Crew Current mileage 201000. Lifter/cam failure at 36,000. No issues since!!

Y’all worry the **** outa me with this Truck . Min2016 5.7 Hemi I purchased last July with 176000 miles clean Carfax and obvious maintenance records 1 owner. Has 192000 now. I’ve since added cat back exhaust and BBK shorty ceramic headers.. new Radiator, 3” lift for front to level it out and I religiously change oil every 5 to 6 k miles. Recently replaced driver side cv axle, wheel bearing hub , and intermediate shaft.. cause I kinda could hear something.. like grind but every checked good just replaced it any how. Got my damn fingers crossed about this cam lifter issue and transmission problems everyone always talking about.. Last Chevy I had went 365000 with out any motor work and I gave a quarter the price for it compared to the Ram..

Recently switched all oils & radiator fluid to Amsoil. No engine tiks or failures at 62K miles on my 2006 Ram 2500 4x4 Hemi 5.7 with 6 speed manual but I did have the main computer fail after a spark plug/tune up. Gas mileage sucks but it's paid for and still looks new. Only upgrades left are maybe leather seats and a back up camera. I expect to be driving it for a long time as I don't put too many miles on it. :)
