My 2014 Ram short bed regular, is fitted with a security fitting on the spare tire lowering thingy. Normal tools that come with truck don’t work. Local dealer took a look, and showed me the part on their computer, but no part # and unable to order. He said that these were made by Mcgard, but I haven’t had any luck there. Might have to cut, the t bracket holding tire up to get it down, then figure something out after that. Any ideas out there? Thanks

I didn't know where my lock was for my truck (here is was in the glove box or storage on the side of the center console - I don't remember which) BUT to get the tire down without it, I crawled under the truck with a smaller pipe wrench (channel locks might work also).
Broke it loose and then just wound it down by hand - it's tight but I got the tire down.
Once the tire is down, I think you should be able to take the lock part off. Might be easier to see how to remove it if you unbolt the winch.

Worse case you could cut the center part holding the tire or the cable, but you will ruin the winch.

i had to cut mine out several years back.i cut the cable and made a new loop and wire clamped it back and it worked fine for years.it gives you a crap ton of slack for pulling the spare out to release it.

If you do what pacofortacos recommends and lower your spare down with a pipe wrench or channel locks.
You will gain access to that spare tire wrench and hopefully that winch tube is either held in place with a cotter pin or a spring clip that can be removed. Then go to a salvage yard and get another winch tube, or just modify the one you have

Thanks for the ideas. Tried getting something over security gizmo, could not get anything to work. Pipe wrench idea worked, slow but sure, and a tight fit for arm. A small piece of the plastic guide cone was broke from my first attempt, and I was able to use a chisel and hammer to remove the gizmo. Now it will work just like a truck without the theft device. Thanks again for the ideas.
