Can you explain this one?

I've got a weird issue here. I was leaving for the gym tonight and remote started my truck and heard this awful noise under the hood and could tell something wasn't right. I got under there and looked and the fan blade has torn through the fan shield,

My first thought is the fan shield got moved/displaced. I checked and made sure the fan shield was securely where it should have been on both sides. Nothing came loose on the shield. Best I can tell, the fan loose like it's slightly angled forward. Hard to tell from the pic,

I've been trying to figure it out all evening and I can't come up with a good explanation other than I ran over something today that caught up underneath the fan shield and bent the fan, but that I seriously doubt. Truck will be going in to the dealer tomorrow. Anyone want to take a guess as to what caused this?

(as you can see from the second pic, there's black from the fan shield right there on the blade.)

My dad cracked his fan shroud with a cat...cat was sleeping next to one of the belts. Started the truck...flung the cat and hit the shroud and broke it.

Was a mess also so I don't think you had a cat problem....but its very possible you hit something

haha definitely no blood or mess...guess that rules out an animal.

I don't specifically remember running over anything, but I guess it could have been something small and caught it just right.

I have no clue man. I'd think if you hit something while you were driving, you would've heard it or the fan would've torn into the shroud then

totally off the wall here, but, could it have been rubbing over time as a reult of the body lift? The engine is still in it's stock location right? Would the shroud and radiator move up 1.25 inches with the body and Dodge not build enough slack in the size of the shroud to accomodate it moving up like that?

There's an efan out there that fits our trucks? JJ...I think my wallet is starting to hate me, haha

I am sure you can get a universal fan for just about any year/make/model vehicle

Only other thing to do would be make or have someone make a custom shroud for it...

f yeah man.

I did a group buy on them and lost my ass. LOL

f'n shipping!

But yeah, TYC makes an eFan that is a DIRECT DROP IN for our Hemi. Its the same one used on the V6 trucks. I've been running it for about a month now. Its great stuff!

Amazon has a great price on it right now - Amazon.com: TYC 622320 Replacement Cooling Fan Assembly for Dodge Ram Pickup: Automotive

My cost on these (with shipping to most people) is literally $120.....I wish I could be competitive on those, but the boxes are f'n huge!

Interesting thought about the body lift...but I've had it on since January and it just now becomes a problem 4 months later overnight?

If I can't get the dealer to cover it.....I'll probably get that eFan. Thanks for the link to amazon, that's not a bad price at all!

Well, the fan isnt always spinning with force...only when the clutch is engaged...so yeah, it might sound weird, but it is totally possible.

This is bothering me lol. The only time I've seen anything like that happen, outside of forgetting to move the shroud after a BL, was the fan clutch coming loose and letting the fan move forward and getting into the shroud

Direct drop in and only 100 bucks....my only question for this before I jump on it when I can is where does it plug into? haha

You remove your old fan shroud, and the fan clutch. the AC fan (efan) is then removed (it pops right up and out) and then this one drops in. There is a plug in the upper driver's corner that plugs right in. I mean DIRECT replacement. I **** you not, I did this mod in 15 minutes.

Good luck!

I still kick myself that I can't beat that price........ :(

Well, thinking next paycheck I'll be ordering one. Think at the same time it's about time I install a 180 t-stat also been putting that off for awhile.

Good luck with the dealer Kevin although I think it'd be an all together better idea to skip them and order the efan because if it was caused by the BL then it'll just happen again.

well........and correct me if I'm wrong - but the fans are put on in a manner that they shouldn't loosen up. Reverse threads........which makes it fun to get off too.

Oh, I know what it was, keester here was doing donuts in the sand yesterday and it flexed! LOL

best part? With a tuner (since you are a 2010) you can set the fan to come on at a lower temp, if you want to.
