Catch can install

Hello Ram Family,

Just finished installing my catch can. Could not find myself spending 100+ dollars on one so I got off amazon for 39.99 and bought 6 ft of hose to do it myself mounting near the battery and it turned out pretty good. I’ll pull it in a thousand miles and see what it picks up.

That's what we call the $42 catch can. Other than the mount and hose, not bad at all! These guys should step up their game just a little bit more IMO...

It probably wouldn't hurt to check it after a few hundred miles just to get a baseline for it's rate of fill. Although unlikely, you'd hate to wait till 1k and have it excessively full.

Yeah check it about 500 miles the first time so you can get a idea of how much might be in there at that point.

Ok good call out I will check it in about 509 miles! Lucky for me my non fancy can is actually fancy and has a dip stick lol.

No I don't believe so, I'm pretty sure I've seen talk on here of the PCV system being different and unable to add a catch can.

I have same can except polished look, works great. At around 500 miles mine caught like 1/4 cup of oil.

Everyone I have seen install one has had something in it in first 300 miles. Did you just check the dipstick or unscrew bottom? If you pull dipstick out when running it has powerful suction. I even put mine at a little incline from the TB.

Just out of curiosity (OP)... Why did you mount it on the other side of the engine bay? Seems like an awfully long way for the fluids to travel.

Mounted mine this weekend, red model so I can find it after the engine has cooled and a few beers, and I already see a marked difference in the Avg. MPG lie o meter as it's registering well above the 16.0 which was the highest before on level run with cruise and eco engaged. This morning, parked at work with MPG Avg. reading 20.3 and I can't wait to change the oil and run some high quality fuel system cleaner through it. I'll be checking the dipstick n the catch can with great interest now. Oh, mine is the 5.7 with about 38,000 on the odo.

Add a bottle of redline fuel cleaner and you will be good. Any p.e.a cleaner, but redline is one of best.

Don't forget installing the decal so you can get the biggest bang for the buck.

Looks like he has an aftermarket air box. Maybe there wasn’t a lot of room left. I do agree it looks like a long distance but the vacuum “should” pull the oil through those lines IMO. Unless there is real low point in the lines where it will collect and eventually/possibly block the system.

Hook it up where line goes into pcv and below throttle body. Use 1/2 inch brass push connectors and good fuel line and is 10 minute install. You will see a plastic line going into rubber connectors at pcv and below TB, remove plastic line and replace with line to catch can. One below throttle body is in to catch can, one to pcv is out. I said that reversed PVC side goes to in on can, out goes to under throttle body, thanks all for catching that.

If it is a k&n I am almost positive there is nowhere on the other side of the engine bay you can hang the $42 catch can on the ac lines. The can seems to be made to mount on those lines, so something would need to be fabricated to install it over there in another location.
