Old time forum runner here, havent been on in awhile but need some insight here. Had no idea about changing CCV filters... whoops! Still learning on the first cummins motor ive had. I noticed for about 2 weeks that the truck has been regening about every 150-175 mi. Much much sooner than the avg 400-550 mi that I have tracked the last year or so. I use one of my trip settings to track how often the truck is doing a regen. I can careless about fuel mileage in between fill ups. I use the other trip option to know when I am desired miles to do an oil change/fuel filter change. So I told the ol lady we were taking the truck for a nice little run around to really get it hot and let it hopefully burn off the soot build up. been a rough summer, havent made the long drives I normally do with it so was thinking maybe it was just build up. I mean its 20 min (mostly hwy) to my work, 5 days a week, one way but its not like the 2 hour drives to the lake once a week the truck is used to seeing this time of year.

So 2 days ago I get the "perform service" message on the screen. No CEL, quick google search leads me to the CCV filter. Interweb how to do that and.... ya... not paying anyone to do that job, ill get it done tonight as the filter just hit my front door step.

So......
Could a clogged/dirty/nasty CCV filter cause this issue of frequent regens? Is it time to have the DPF system looked at by dealer? Truck has 75k mi, and i had a faulty sensor at 7k in the DPF system, so thinking it didnt trigger the "perform service" message at 67.5k mi because it was cleared when that was fixed at dealer. Have the truly figured out a way around the 22 ECM's yet? If so, DM me, as im sure this isnt a topic of open discussion.... but it might be time for a gastric bypass on this truck and get the lungs opened up a bit... if you know what I mean.

Unlikely the CCV is causing the frequent regens, more common cause is using an after market air filter.

And no, they have not cracked the 22 ecm (and likely never will). If you want to delete you will have to do a ecm swap. Beware of people selling a "no ecm swap" delete, it's garbage and not really a tune. They just found a way to spoof the fault codes so you can remove the parts. Many have had issues doing it that way.

Interesting... as I did just change the air filter not too too long ago (but still been some time), but used the same ones I always have. Wondering if they changed and I didnt know it. SO that leads me to the next question, where are you all getting your air filters from? I dont mind paying more for a good one. Just want a right one!

Anyone know anything about the Diesel dudes kit? It comes with an ECM swap, im ok with having to do that, and if the DPF ever has to be replaced... dollar for dollar its going to be hard not to go that route vs replace the cancer.

I buy only OEM mopar filters (air/fuel/oil) and get them from Geno's Garage, great prices and fast shipping. Buying on places like Amazon can be a crap shoot, too many fake's out there these days (especially the fuel filters)

It sounds like your stock Cummins is unhappy with the 40 mile commute. The only Cummins owners that I have heard of that have no issues with stock emissions in place use their truck for long runs, such as "hot shot" haulers. What you are seeing is typical for the miles on your Ram. I have read of trucks having frequent re-gens being taken out for a long hot meal clearing some of the soot buildup in the system, but I believe that is just a temporary band-aid. A long time friend's son bought a 13 Cummins that he intended to leave stock but soon spent a lot of money to replace emissions components, but when it happened again, a very short time later, he let a lot of junk fall off the truck. I think a lot of us that own these diesels would leave our trucks stock if the systems were viable, but unfortunately that is not the case.

For air filters I only use the Fleetguard AF27684 as for regens have you tried Archoil 6400d & 6500 fuel additives using it has helped many engines see longer run times between regens including my own truck that at one time saw had regen every 3-400 miles, after using Archoil products I now see 700+ miles & 24 hour regens...

Im seriously thinking about seeing if there is a real way to get rid of the junk on my truck. I live in a place that does not require emissions for registration. Everything is so secretive and hard to know whats good and whats not. I will change air filter as soon as the new one gets here. The CCV filter went in and a good long run this weekend and the truck is humming better than ever. Great oil pressure, temps numbers etc, but never had bad numbers. At 175 mi so far without a regen, but will see if thats a temp fix and if air filter helps. If air filter is issue, i will be good with that. If not, its time to seriously consider some cancer removing. Like many, I have no issues with filling def and keeping whats in place.... if it WASNT PROBLEMATIC!
