Hello,

I have a ram 1500 2017. I bought a 6500lbs travel trailer. I don't want too much sag on the back of my truck. I wonder if I would be better to change my coils springs for more HD (tufftruck 1223v) because I will only tow a few times a year, or if I install a kit like the airlift loadlifter 5000 that I will inflate when I need it. What do you think is the best option?

Im in somewhat the same situation.....rarely (if ever) will tow with my truck, but I would like more support when I get loads of mulch, dirt, etc.

I like the airbag idea because I could tailor it just right, but I like the spring idea because they are pretty much foolproof.

For you I would suggest the air bags. Not very expensive & easy to install. When you don't need them you just keep the pressure low so it doesn't ride rough.

As others have said, WDH and airbags are not a substitute for one another. They work together nicely. For bags I say don't skimp with cheap ones. I've run several sets of Firestone 5000 on HD trucks and love them. Timbrens would word too but aren't as versatile.

Airlift makes a bag that goes into the coil spring to help stiffen the spring. I use that in combination with a WD hitch to get a very nice ride and level set up out of my 2015 1500 when pulling a travel trailer that’s almost 9500#s.

I'm in the opposite camp, I put the springs on mine, touched it once and forgot about it. Just use my air pressure gauge for the tires.

Thats what I was leaning towards.....originally wanted Timber Groves, but hoses can leak, rubber can break down, etc.

Springs are pretty much forever.

How was your ride quality after that? I like my super smooth quality with the stock springs, I’m afraid if I change them to a stiffer one, it’ll be a stiffer ride.

I put on the 1223V's and couldn't tell the difference. and neither could my wife or mother-in-law, it still rode great

Timbrens on my 2500. Almost 3000 lbs payload and sits and rides great.

I did the Timbergrove bags because they weren't too difficult to install at all. Put the schrader valve next to the license plate. For the rare heavy hauling they do the job.

I would use Timbrinds and a load distribution hitch . I have both on my 2017 and 2019 Laramies. It is the best way to go, and they don't wear out!!!

A lot of good advice here as well as different ways to solve your sagging rear-end. I'm going on 3 years now with the under $100 airlift bags in combination with a WDH. My trailer is about the same as yours in weight and it tows very well and is very stable. I do have to watch the overall weight I carry in the truck to try and stay below the max weight you are suppose to carry. Both, in my opinion, are an absolute must have if you are towing a 6500 lb trailer. Your tongue weight is probably in the 900+ range or it should be. Whatever you pick for bags or coils or both, you still need a WDH.
