It concerns me that you have a laptop mounted like that. It's worse that a cell phone...

How bout it. Movies on the head unit, trading on the laptop. I pray to god he’s never driving around me.

First of all, I don't trade WHILE driving, and if I have a movie running while driving, it is something that I have seen countless times and don't activity watch. I just prefer having a movie playing in the background and listening to that, than feeding my brain with politically driven agenda ******** on the radio, mixed up with cancer treatment ads.

Secondly, I used to be a first responder and had to deal with a lot more equipment while driving with lights and siren, well past speed limits.

No insurance claims on my history, I don't drink - period, no tickets in I don't even know how many years, must be getting close to 10, "Good Driver" status written on my driver license. And you?

But thanks for the useless comment.

And I still would not want to be driving next to you.

I apologize. I didn’t realize that former first responders with perfect driving records are incapable of getting distracted for a split second and causing an accident.

Like the (split) seconds being used to adjust the AC, change the radio station or to look into the rear view mirror? You got any more nonsense to troll or are we done?

Yup. It’s all good. I was just posting an opinion on a public forum. You’ll have that sometimes when you get a bunch of members together with various views. Keep driving safe.

The radio does look good for for what it cost, by the way. I personally wouldn’t mess with the Chinese Android units though (relax! It’s just an opinion)

I can deal with opinions all day long, but not with illogical assumptions.

Nowhere did I say that I day trade on my laptop while driving or that I stare at a movie while driving. Any movie plays only in the background, that's on the same level of distraction as your wife nagging about your driving, or the night vision screen in my S class Benz, if used adversely it will distract you.

People need to learn to be responsible by themselves, and not by being regulated down to the rubbish at the lowest common denominator.

They're hardly "illogical assumptions". ANYTHING that distracts you - yes, the AC, Stereo, wife, kids etc can be an issue. The fact that you feel you need a laptop set up so you can have it open and available from the drivers seat like that is a little concerning to me. The fact that you state: "and if I have a movie running while driving, it is something that I have seen countless times and don't activity watch" is even more frightening as well as illegal. But hey, you're a former first responder with a perfect driving record, so that that makes it ok, right?

Do you tell every forum member your opinion that installing headers will be too loud, window tint being too dark, or engine modifications will stress stock parts to the point that it can cause a crash your concerning opinion as well? Haven't seen that. Hypocrite much?

Maybe I wasn't clear enough the last time around: I. Do. Not. Care. What. You. Have. To. Say. Pal.

And in order to save me the time and not having to read your repetitive moral preaching again, I just put you on ignore.

Finished my "interior build".

Had the same laptop and scanner in my GMC truck. Laptop allows me to day trade on the go, or use GPS navigation on a larger screen, or check on forums, or watch a movie / YouTube / VUDU. Well with the new head unit I can play movies from a 1 TB hard drive or stream online, while keeping the laptop for trading.

The new center console will receive some switches next week, allowing me to cut the power for laptop, head unit, scanner, radio, dash cam, etc individually, because everything is hotwired to the battery. I hate it when all gets turned off as soon as you pull the key. And if you keep the key in the ignition you get to hear the retarded chime and a bunch of other devices stay on that you don't need, sucking the battery empty.

Head unit is great so far. I can install Android apps for everything. GPS navigation, online browsing, tons of music and movies from 2 USB sticks, internal ROM, and a 1 TB harddrive, great sound, my scanner and laptop are hooked up to it as well.

Head unit turns on within 2 seconds. The IPS screen offers very wide viewing angles and is daylight-bright.

I really thought about a android Hu. Then I seen the 2018 model Kenwood ddx 9905s reference model for $440, I couldn't pass it up. 720p, android auto, HD radio 5v out, maestro input, better audio, has its own GPS antenna that comes with stereo for using phones GPS like Google maps. Plus many more options, is as close to a android radio with Kenwood reliability I could find. Think that's a steal for $440. The one model lower without HD screen is under $400 now, almost bought that, but the HD screen was worth it to me.

I have a laptop mount similiar for my work van, transit connect. I think the manufacturer is RAM ironically. Something like that. Obviously I dont use it while driving, it's more for comfortable access while pulled over with my fancy orange strobe lights on.

Spent the entire day reading up on all those cheap units. Placed an order for this... many reviews turned out positive... the Kenwood equivalent would be the 955 at $1,300.

I liked your post and bought this unit. There wasn't any fascia I could find to fit it, as I had to trim the dash panel to accept the mounts. Any help, bro?

Also, any update on how the head unit is working out for you after about a year?

The hardware is great, especially for the price, put the software is annoying and a true risk. Many buttons and texts are so tiny that you can barely make them out. Operating this unit while driving is almost a no-go because you have to look at it again and again in order to hit the right buttons and read anything. It also has a few bugs that make operating it a hassle. You can get used to it but its not ergonomic at all. Sometimes the volume on-screen button gets stuck and it rides the vol all the way up until your ears start to bleed. Yet another major distraction while driving. Or it freezes up in the radio mode and you can't turn on YouTube or anything else.

So far my routine is that I turn on a movie or audio-book before leaving, and just keep listing to that for the entire ride.

I may update it with a new firmware and see if things have changed.

Next time around I'll get that $1000 Kenwood or Alpine.
