Hey everyone,

Yesterday my 2012 1500 with the 5.7 threw a C.E.L. and I ran the scanner and it came back as a P0344 code. I also noticed on the way home that if the light is on the truck will not shift into the 5 or 6 gear and when you hit about 65-70 mph it sounds like it needs to shift but just remains in the same gear. I have tried erasing it and disconnecting the battery to see if it would remove it. The code always came back which is fine, then this morning on the way to work the traction control light came on with the check engine light. Then when I got to work I checked the oil and it was crazy low so I added some to it.

My question is I know the code from the C.E.L. is probably just the sensor which is not a hard fix but would that same code cause me to loose so much oil and to also have the traction control light come on?

Thanks for any help I am super confused as to what is going on.

From some quick research that’s a camshaft position sensor code and you may not want to put it off too long since that can cause the engine not to start. I doubt it would cause any oil issues though. As for the lack of shifting, unless the PCM uses the engine timing to help control transmission shift points, I don’t really see a connection there either. Transmission shifting is more directly related to engine speed and several other things.
