light came on, checked with a trouble code reader and it indicated a camshaft position sensor. Installed new part and reset ( disconnected battery). Light stayed off for about 2 Miles, and then back on. I now find my remote start is not working??

Should have said it’s a 2012 1500 with 5.7 hemi. No mods

I don't think remote start works when there is an active MIL. Disconnecting battery doesn't reset MIL faults. They need to be cleared by a scanner or the fault clears on its own.

Do you know exactly which code was set? The VT actuator has been known to fail which throws a position sensor type fault.

Does that include if you hold the cables together for 30 seconds (to discharge the capacitors)?

Yes, the MIL state is preserved through power outages for some years, dunno about 2012. If the fault condition clears, most will clear the light on their own after a few driving cycles

Capacitive discharge will clear the PCM of any active or stored codes.

As to the OP what’s the exact code you’re getting? 2012 was a common year for the oil control valve screens coming apart and clogging up the valve. The oil control valve is for the variable cam timing. A faulty valve will set cam position codes.

Also the remote start won’t work if the cel is on.
