Just tried taking out the factory jack/handle to lower the spare for the first time. Now this is a used truck to me, 150k miles and it looks like it never was removed ever. Good thing I didn’t need it. The bolt was rusted as they leave the bottom of the bolt exposed underneath and I’m in a rust state. Had to use channel locks and then cut the bolt as the nut broke the spot welds free. I’ll be sealing up this hole and probably storing it under the rear seat.
I would consider removing your bolt and using anti-seize if you will need this someday.

I Bought a small bottle jack. The factory jack almost left me stranded when the teeth on the base let go causing the jack and Screw to tip backward. If I tried to lower the jack it woukd have screwed into My tank and I couldn't unscrew it to lower because my lug nuts were already off leaving the brake rotor sitting on the inside of my wheel. Luckily I was able to borrow a nearby construction sites hoe and lift the truck up.
Needless to say I no longer trust cheap factory crap. Woukda been real bad if I happened to be under it when that happened.

Do one better, buy these two Mopar parts:
06508288AA
06512623AA
Its the double sided stud and hold down nut that Ram started using in the '18 and beer trucks. It should work for any '13+ 1500 or HD truck

I heard about this and checked mine the other day, had never used it.

It was okay, sprayed the threads with Fluid Film. I'll check it again in a few years.

I used these parts (inexpensive at the dealer) to modify the jack mounting on my 2014 Ram 1500 Outdoorsman. They were very easy to install. The original bolt holding the jack assembly had to be removed with a vice grip pliers, although it did not break.

Also you need to check the part that lowers the spare tire, it was froze up on mine and I had to cut the cable to get the tire down.

Yes this is true for all trucks. I did drop mine and it worked well but have cut many off other trucks I owned. I also sprayed the whole assembly and cable with fluid film. I was installing air bags so I needed the room.

I live down south so I've never had the rusting bolt issue but I did replace the bolt with the kit of parts that is mentioned.Very inexpensive and easy to do

Mine gets sprayed with oil based undercoating (since I roll around under the truck and shoot everything). After 3 northeast winters it still releases easily.

I will be upgrading to the updated parts, though, since cheap and easy.

Within the first thirty day of owning my 2016 I had the jack out and I put anti-seize on the hold down bolt.
Plus I lowered the spare tire down and spray the ***** cable with chain and cable lube and that happens at every oil change.

I just wish my jack would stay in the truck long enough to rust. 14k miles and I have had three flats. The first one was at 1k miles three weeks after purchase. I never got a warm fuzzy feeling working around a 5400 pound truck on the factory supplied jack any way. I finally bought this jack and put it in the bed:

Love the new all-in-one jack/stand. That’s a good deal also, thanks for sharing. I’m the same, the factory scissor jack is really a last resort if it’s all you got.

I have no intentions of using that scissor jack. That chit is prob more dangerous than my hi lift jack and it can’t go as high as my hi lift :) I’m still keeping it down the seat as the very very last jack I’ll ever touch if I ever need it. So asides from those 2 I already mention I have an 8 ton bottle jack underneath the rear seat that have dibs if I ever need to use the spare.

I bought the expensive one. Same thing as that one but I guess a new redesign and about $15 or 20 more :) it’ll go in the bed on long trips. I don’t know why in the hell have 4 different jacks in the truck but.. I don’t tell the wife and then nobody complaints. Lol

I got the same thing in 3 ton version. I always put in truck when I am traveling ne big distance. I always also carry a Breaker Bar with 22 MM socket (for lug nuts), stays in truck all the time and put my Ft Lb Torque wrench in truck when I travel also along with small tool box with choice items, and a shovel when I travel. Old force of Habit.
