So I have noticed this chirping noise in my 2016 Ram 1500 that SEEMS to be coming from the rear/middle of the truck, getting increasingly more frequent over the past few months. It only makes the chirp/squeak when going over very small bumps on the road. Don't hear it really at all when accelerating (I think its because it puts that squeaky part under tension?) but the chirping is very noticeable when not accelerating or braking, just cruising down the road and hitting a slight change in road grade or a small bump. I can't seem to get it to make the sound when bouncing or rocking the truck in the driveway. From what I've seem it sounds like a rear strut bushing or some type of bearing? The trucks got 32,*** miles on it.

Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue and what they have done to fix whatever may be causing it. Thanks!

Sounds a lot like this:

Before you go tossing parts in and out, maybe get your butt to one of those oil-change places, and make sure they grease-up everything that needs greased-up. Ask them if anything looks worn-out or off... if everything looks good to them, pay the bill and be on your way... then you go find some bumps and see if it's still squeaky.

If you still get the noise after that, then start looking at bushings and bearings yourself to see if anything looks worn out. Look at body-mount points to see if anything is cracked or worn. Look at the springs and check for cracks. Look at where the springs connect to the axles and body... are the bushings worn out or missing? Finally, take the time to wash everything underneath, then get a sheet of cardboard, lay on it, grab a flashlight, and go over the entire underside with a fine-toothed eyeball... you'll be looking for spots where the metal is worn shiny (from rubbing), cracks, busted or missing bolts, etc.

If you didn't find anything and *still* hear it? Then you drag it into a shop and have a mechanic look at it (tell him what you did up to that point.)

I've been dealing with that sound for almost 4 years. If you find out what it is please for the love of God let me know.

Hi BSP8,
We're sorry to hear that you're having these troubles. Please feel free to send us a private message if you decide to have your dealer look into this in case you need additional assistance while your truck is at the dealer.

Like mentioned previously-look for the obvious, I had a spare tire come a little loose on a Silverado and it would shift slightly over bumps.

My 2500 does it too. Took it in, dealer said that the emergency brake cables were making the noise? Anyhow, they said fixed and chirp was gone. Now, it is back, so not sure if they were right or not

Take a look at your anti-sway bar bushings back there. Had a similar issue/sound that disappeared right after I installed my Hellwig bar that had greased/lubed bushings. May be coincidence but my squeak is no more after the install.

same as Firebird, parking brake cables on my 2500 were rubbing on brackets that keep them in place along the frame - greased them down in 2 locations and quiet for now. expect will have to repeat this in time.
