Well I had our old sidewalk in the back of my truck, lowering it a decent amount. It's then that I decided to lower the rear. I've been on the fence of going up in front or down in rear. I cut 1.25 coils off since I tow a boat every weekend. I cut one coil, than measured 3" off that and cut again.

Before, on a half tank
Fronts - 36.25
Rear driver - 39.5
Rear pass - 39

After, still half tank
Fronts - 36.25
Rear driver - 38
Rear pass - 37.5

So I went down 1.5" on the money. Hooked the boat up and rear goes to level with front which is perfect. Cut very minimal, axle still centered and saved $200.

Figured the dimensions would help others. It's an 11 ram QC 4x4 20"

I know this might be a dumb question, but did you cut from the top or the bottom of the coil?

Cut from Top. The Bottom is small and fit to axle. Also did one at a time due to driver spring is longer than passenger.

Nicely done!
It's almost funny how different it is from side to side, from the factory, eh?
The ride is the same as at full height, and these trucks just have SO much travel they won't miss 1.5". I'm not a cutting coils fan (I did on mine as well) but for this application for a minor drop it just makes sense.

What did you cut the springs with? I'm going to be trying to get a bit more drop but not sure what to use.

Gotta be better gas mileage than carrying a chunck of concrete around.

I used a grinder with cutting wheel. Took roughly 1min per coil.

I have always been against chopped coils, especially when I see guys cutting them to get a drastic drop (2/4,3/4 etc). For this little amount however it's a perfect solution. Logged 60 miles so far and I don't notice any difference. Extremely happy!

The faster you can get through without heating them up the better.

I turned 2" drop coils into 3" drop coils with a cutting wheel.
Never had a single issue with em.

While I think cutting off a dramatic number of coils might cause unwanted issues (like the rear coils falling out over a drastic 'drop' of the suspension) but that's just in theory, not saying it'd happen.
