Hello, new to the forums but I have a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 5.2L motor. The truck has sat for over 4 yrs due to tranny slipping but not real bad and wanted to address that issue but wife got real sick so it was put on the back burner. Anyway after her passing. I really wanted to get back on the truck to get it on the road since this was her truck. Well not surprised it had seized up because the pan was removed over a broken dipstick crawled under the motor didn't see anything ruse or damage wise so I wanted to turn the motor over by hand to inspect before re-installing the pan it it wouldn't budge. SO I pulled the plugs and tried again no luck. I filled all the cylinders with the famous Marvin Mystery oil and let it sit over night wight the pan put on to catch and liquid. Well it broke free pretty easy with back and fourth motions till it was free enough to turn clock wise and now about every rotation I'm hearing a click sound. Its seems to be in the same place. Does anyone have a idea of what to look for or is the expected? Tried look up online but not sure if I worded it wrong or nothing out there? Thanks

Also forgot to say. This click noise sounds like it towards the front of the motor.

Well this must be a mystery for most.lol. I was going to replace the water pump anyway so I took everything off the front of the motor to get a better listen from the top and didn't hear anything. I'm going to crawl back underneath tomorrow and turn it again to see if the sound is still there? If i don't. I'm going to proceed and drop the pan clean it then put it on for oil. I am thinking of removing the valve covers and light spraying them with some oil and watch them as I turn over the motor by hand to make sure everything is moving as it should. The click had somewhat a sound of a spring sound. Very hard to describe. The motor broke free really easy. The breaker bar was used but that was more for leverage side.

Well nobody had any ideas but I have been going back and rotating motor by hand and the clicking disappeared so my guess would be something catching in the walls but I have oiled and turned a few times a day now and all good. Now I will replace the oil pump for safe measures as well remove the valve covers and make sure everything looking good there as well. Thanks

Get A battery, undo the coil wire, pump up the oil pressure, connect wire see if it will run. If it was running 4 years ago it should be OK, as long as nothing got inside the engine, water mice ect. After that change the fluids, belt , coolant, go from there. As Charlie Daniels once said,"fire that mother up" Sorry about losing your wife. Good luck

I should be ok. Other then sit for about a year without the oil pan on ( 4 years total). It looked good. That was my fear of being exposed but got under it with a flashlight to my surprise it looked really clean. Like I said, letting it sit over night with MM. It broke free really easy. I believe now my clicking sound may have been what was still on the cylinder wall since I have spun it a few times a day and its gone. I have a few more things to do so I am hoping to have her back together for a fresh start up. I will do a cold and warm pressure check on the cylinders then once that completed. I will do a fresh oil change a couple of times and go from there.

Thanks for the kind words. The wife bought the truck when it was pretty close to new and she wanted our daughter to have it so that's my goal here. so I'm going to take my time to make sure everything is right and dependable.
