Has anyone had this happen when debadging? I used a heat gun on low, and used fishing line to remove the badge. Even before I removed the badge I could see what looked like red paint flaking, but it was just where the glue had been painted over. After removing the glue I can still see a raised edge that chips off, dont think it’s glue...any info/advice?01c778587d4776227923b81deb6b504c.jpg

In that bottom pic, when i zoom in, it looks an awful lot like im seeing some sanding marks.
(Zoom in on the area above the dark spot, above and left of the H).

If those are sanding marks, then that fender has had some bodywork done (poorly).

If it was done poorly enough to leave sanding marks, theres a good chance that whoever did that work sprayed clear over the badges.

So, any wrecks in this trucks history?

In your post you mentioned some red flaking that looks like "where the glue was painted over". Chrysler doesn't paint over logo adhesive. Further evidence botched bodywork.

If im im correct, you may need to take a trip to your local body shop to get this corrected.

No wrecks in the history, nope. And the upper left corner scratches are from a putty knife I used at first when getting the badge off, if those are the marks you mean.

Also should add, when I removed the badge the adhesive did have a coat of red on it, like paint cane off with it. I did remove it with fishing line and it wasn’t difficult at all, not like I peeled it off.

Something odd is going on.

Clearcoat is clear. So, if there was red stuck to the removed logo, then your definitely into the basecoat.

Got a pic of the backside of the removed badges?

Looking at how hard the edge is around the badge and the lighter shade of red where the badge was, the is definitely something going on in that area. Without seeing the badge and adhesive, the best possibility is that the fender was repainted and there was poor paint prep where the badge was and when you debadged, the adhesive peeled the paint. More likely though is still shoddy work and they taped and sprayed around the badge without removing it.

Sorry for how that turned out.

Just ran a car fax report and there is zero reported damage. I know putting the badge back on will cover the issue, but could it re-covering it cause further issues down the road?

Already peeled everything off the badge. But it had the normal black adhesive filling the badge, and red paint on the backside as well, stuck to the adhesive.

Bought it from a dealership and it’s barely under 50k miles. Wonder if warranty would cover this.

Here are some bits of the adhesive I found. Keep in mind this if after applying adhesive remover so it has faded

Also i wanna add,

Ive painted more than a few cars and motorcycles, so ive got s decent eye for what base/clear vs single stage color coat looks like.

The area under the badge letters looks, to me, like base/clear paint. It -does not- look like base that has had the clear pulled off. That red under the badges looks like perfectly intact normal, factory base/clear

That red everywhere else looks like single stage acryllic urethan paint. The kinda **** mako would use.

I think you should go to the nearest reputable body shop and pay them to fix it correctly.

Its worth the couple hundred bucks itll cost, to not have that fender fade to **** in a year.

Start by cleaning off the rest of the adhesive, so you can better see whsts going on under there.

Also, carfax will only show the big stuff. Things like Insurance covered accidents. My wife backed into a fire hydrant once, and i paid a body shop 600$ to fix it. That did-not find its way to carfax.

If nothing else, have s body shop inspect that area. Theyll do it free and give you a repair quote. Having someone inspect it in person is going to be alot better than us, looking at pics on the internet.

Report back on what they say, im curious.

@Ken226 is right, take it to a good shop and get it done correctly. I've done a lot of warranty repairs, freight / lot damage repairs and customer pay jobs and they rarely show on a Carfax even if they are high $. Could be single stage, a blend area or even multiple repairs. Bottom line is there's a lack of adhesion and if you really want to know how many times someones been there have the shop do a mil thickness test to see what's factory and whats not.

Since this is a paint defect, even if from previous damage, do you think warranty would cover it? No damage reported so I don’t see how they could claim it’s from previous damage and not from factory. I’ve never claimed warranty before, so I’m no professional on that.

All they need to do is measure the mil thickness and then they'll know if it was repaired. If it was dealer warranty then it should be documented. Here's the big question, did you purchase this truck new with no miles, new as a demo or used?

I doubt warranty will cover it as it was a used truck and they will say it was painted.

Carfax didn't pick up $15k in damage on my wife's old car. It is highly overrated as far as being relied on.

Sorry, I would doubt that FCA would warranty that one. If it's a recent purchase maybe the selling dealer would step up but probably only if they did the actual repair as "used car prep".

Alright looks like my next step will be getting a body shop to take a look at it. Thanks again for everyone’s help, I’ll respond back once I get an answer.

Just because there is no record doesn’t mean it wasn’t repainted/repaired.
