Hey all, for the last 2 1/2 weeks, my truck started squeaking at idle. When I'd accelerate, squeak goes away. Took it to the dealer last tuesday and they said squeak is from waterpump. Waterpump will be replaced when it comes in. I called today and was told it's on back order.

Since day one, my clutch fan would once in a while come on at cold starts. At first, clutch fan would disengage after a few minutes, then few miles, then a day or two. Now my clutch fan has been on for three days. Total of 150 miles with clutch fan engaged. Very annoying. Loud roaring. I didn't tell the dealer about the clutch fan last week because it hadn't come on for almost one week.

BTW truck has never over heated. Engine coolant about 212° tranny between 165°-170° oil 221°.

My question. Does the water pump have any connection to the clutch fan? I told the dealer today (via telephone ) about the clutch fan. They said they'll check it out when replace the water pump.

Well the clutch fan engages when the engine hits a specified temp, being that your water pump may not be operating a peak efficiency its reasonable to assume that the truck may be operating slightly hotter than expected. Therefore the clutch fan would kick in and run more frequently to compensate.

I just stopped at the dealer after my kids Dr's appointment so they can hear it. The mechanic who diagnosed my truck with the bad water pump happened to be talking with the advisor when I walked up. He heard it. He then said if you shut the truck off and turn it back on, it should disengage. I turned the engine off and back on. Revved the engine. It roared so loud everyone turned and looked.

He said the water pump could be part of it. He said the bearings are shot and truck thinks it's running hot. He said he wants to change the water pump first to see if it fixes it. He said he will check the relay to see if it's bad when changing the water pump. Then move on to see if the clutch fan itself is bad.

I have alittle high hopes at this dealership. First dealer i took it to said it's normal and gave my truck back an hour later. They told me "it's a HD truck, buy a dodge Dart if it's too loud".
