Hey all,
Wondering if anyone else doesnt have red clips on their ignition coil packs wiring harness? From what I have read, there is suppose to be red clips that you push up and then a pin you push in to remove the clips. I don’t have any red clips and don’t see and clips to push to take the clips off. I have a 2011 Ram 1500 5.7 Sport. Anyone know how these come off? Sounds dumb, I know.
I may know a lot, but know it all lol.
Thanks!

Some years they didn't have those red retainers you have the s-2087 plug. You basically have to grab the back of the connector, you can kinda see a tab in the middle and squeeze (sometomes push in) till you hear and feel it pop. If that doesn't work sometomes you can take a 90* pick and unlock it by going in from the front.
In the pic you'll see that square hoop thing squeeze behind that. Sometomes the older trucks just don't like letting go easily. 21ffa50078975c894d5b89975f9b534d.jpg

Are the pins still the same as the connectors with the red clips for all 2011 5.7’s or are they different? Like could I swap out a red clip connector coil to a non red clip connector coil on the same year truck?

Do you have single plug or dual on yours?

Edit.
Nvm was looking at 4.7 coil for a sec.

I'm going to say yes as they are the same coils listing says 2011-2016 rams. My 15 ram has the red locking tabs.

Yeah single on mine. Some coils only go from 05-14 that I was looking at that fit my year (MSD).

When they went to the irridiumn style plugs in 2014 FCA upgraded the coil packs with more windings to fire the plugs. An upgrade on your truck is to put the newer style coil packs on which put out more juice then the MSD coils do.The new coils are rated at 38,000 volts, and you could run the newer style iridium plugs if you wanted

Damn! Too late as I already bought the coils and plugs last week. I’m just using the mopar Nickel plugs with a change every 40,000 and the MSD Street fire direct replacement. Yeah I should have went with the new ones. Well I’ll know for next time anyways. Thanks Wild!

You'll be okay with the MSD coils as long as you stick to the copper plugs Lyle. Lots of guys think the MSD coils are an upgrade and they are slightly better then the stock coils on your 11,but on a 14 or newer truck, they're actually not as good as the stock coils. Guys are pulling upwards of 1100 rwhp on the stock 14+ coils, lol

Keeping this thread going. I broke a clip on cylinder 8, hit a big bump today and the harness came loose, engine code misfire came on. Found this harness rebuild kit, hoping it's the right part.
